I recently bought from Dip and Doze - original bedlinen in soft and smooth. Really pleased with it. The appearence seems similar imo to the Heals' washed cotton.

Not helpful but when I cleared my parents house I found two pairs of sheets they had been given as a wedding present in the 1950s, still in their presentation boxes with ribbon and cellophane. It was a sad case of keeping things for best which never came. We use them all the time and I doubt if that quality exists now.

I bought some for our guest room from M&S which were OK. John Lewis might be worth a try?
