Hello everyone, and welcome to the April Flylady thread!
We welcome newbies and returnees - if you are curious about the system feel free to ask questions or lurk! We do follow it, erm, loosely to say the least. So there is a lot of chat about random life stuff as well as housework, decluttering and organising.

A key element of flylady is not being a perfectionist!
I don’t think the regulars would mind me saying that most of us here are not naturals at housekeeping etc, so please don’t feel we are some intimidating group who demand perfectly shined sinks. We are human. We fall off the wagon. We commiserate and help each other climb back on, and we stock the virtual naughty corner with snacks and blankets for the days when adulting is just too hard.

So, the system:
🔹Some baby steps which are designed to help you build up a routine.
🔹Daily missions to help with sprucing up particular areas in the zones, for example the first zone of the month is the entry/porch and dining room if you have one.
🔹Try and do 15 minutes decluttering a day. It didn’t get cluttered in a week so it will take a lot longer to clear it!
🔹Daily focuses to help shape the week.
🔹Here on the thread many of us post to do lists, but also “ta da” lists of things we’ve achieved that day.
🔹We also recommend the Power of Three technique - if you’re overwhelmed with too much to do, just pick three things and don’t think about the rest.

Anyway, I will post some links each day (hopefully) but whether you follow the system or not - many of us just take the bits we like or build our own flylady style system to suit our own lives - do join in if you want a place to chat about keeping a house and family running!

Finally, thank you hugely to the lovely willow for steering us beautifully through March! 💐

I saw a shooting star last night. Never seen one before. Made a point of going out for some fresh air today even though I didn't go anywhere special. Added another couple of books to the decluttering pile.

Dancing good luck with sorting out the mountains of doom. It sounds daunting.

Off to catch up with the rest of the thread now

WildBlueAndDitzy · 10/04/2022 00:28

I can't sleep if I'm too cold either Frankie. If you can add more blankets to the bed and use a hot water bottle (or preferably two) to warm it up before you get in, it does work, it's a question of getting enough blankets piled on. Fleece pyjamas, with a hood (or just a tracksuit) and bedsocks over normal socks. If you can, heat the room for half hour before you go to bed. It won't feel warm but taking the chill off the air does help a little.

Hazel I get headaches if I don't get enough sleep too.

Hope the antibiotics are sorting out your cat hand Red and fingers crossed you fully recover from covid soon. You did well getting all those boxes packed with your friend.

Sing you're always so busy you're allowed a day of not thinking, give your brain a rest. Watching animals chew hay is soothing.

Hills I don't know who all these peopley people are but they sound annoying, so I'm sorry you're in this situation.

Zoo if you can, buy extra duvets for the living room and snuggle down with a hot water bottle every day. And wear a hood and a scarf if you're cold, makes a big difference.

Glad your garden is coming along MrsTidy

🤣It was a tongue in cheek comment.😂

Well I am shattered. Things went a bit wrong today unfortunately but then worked out in the end.
I worked at the market from this morning till 3pm then went to friends where she had been sorting and packing and sorting her two kids. Packed some more and she had made me some late lunch, yum. The van eventually turned up and we took out, weighed and loaded 57 boxes. All sizes, some food, bottled water and clothing and blankets.
So it is on its way. Then we spoke to someone she knows in Ukraine and he actually shed a few tears at the relief of knowing some of the stuff on its way. Clothing and food for soldiers too. So thankful and I just told him how awful it is and we were glad to be able to collect and send it and it broke our hearts which made him cry poor man. So my friend has a little bit of space in her house now😃
Spent some time socialising in the pub after I got home. Soft drinks due to the cat bite.
No housework done as too knackered.

My eyes are shutting

Happy birthday Red 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 I hope you have a lovely day. I really hope DH has something planned for you to make you feel special, and if not, do something special for yourself, buy yourself flowers, indulge in fancy chocolates, a nice top etc.

Happy Birthday Red (missed exactly which day it is). Hope you get spoilt.

Not much to report here but the house is roughly under control heading into the Easter holidays, ready to be decimated by DD1.

Redsquirrel5 · 10/04/2022 10:01

Thank you Hazel nothing planned apart from going to DS3 tonight. DH was going to watch the football with him but choir has been cancelled so he said he will take me for lunch in the Lakes. Local friend was talking about somewhere they had been so I think we will try there. Northern Lakes and it is an old station and railway carriage cafe.

Zoo that is how I started with Covid freezing cold from afternoon till about 3-4 am them roasting. I would do LFT in day or two.

Redsquirrel5 · 10/04/2022 10:02

Thanks Up it is today. Still in bed. DH has brought me tea and hot cross bun. Mmmmm!

🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁

Happy birthday (whether today or soon?) to our lovely red!

As it’s Sunday there are no missions but we are moving into Zone 3, the bathroom and one other room (eg spare room or kids’ bedroom) so if you want to declutter that’s a good place to try.

The daily focus is to renew your spirit - do something nice for yourself.

Baby step 10 is about the power of fifteen minutes!

Dancingtomusic · 10/04/2022 19:27

Wildblue- hello! I reorganised my dumping ground above the washing machine- its lots better and a shopping bag of stuff to give to the charity shop.

Zoo- Hope you got back to sleep and the socks helped. I also love the idea of lots of children playing with the same toy and bringing happiness and joy at the toy being reused.

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 10/04/2022 22:30

Mn has apparently eaten my birthday greetings to Red! This will not do. Happy birthday Red 🎁🎂🎉🥳💐🥂🍾!

That's a very productive day Sing I'm sorry but I had to laugh 🤣 at the thought of cagletini getting into mischief. It could have been something much, much worse that she put in her hair!

Ta Das:
🧁 Skyped mum
🧁 rotated DW
🧁 washed up handwash dishes
🧁 baked cupcakes
🧁 took a shower, got dressed, hair done, makeup on, ready for the day

🧁 took another shower and got ready for bed
🧁 set clothes out for tomorrow

I'm super sleepy tonight, my feet hurt & I ache all over from being up and so active today.

SingToTheSky · 11/04/2022 07:30

:o indeed hazel I was much more worried until I smelled it! She does have a habit of trying to clean the bathroom windows by herself Hmm :o must try and harness that urge before the novelty wears off :o
Hope your feet feel less achy soon!

I’m not up yet. Lots to do today.

Good morning beautiful people!

Hit the ground running this morning

ta da
make 4 batches of hot cross buns
deal with a builder related crisis
check emails
check weather so laundry can go out
Drink coffee
make burgers and put in freezer to shape up for cooking
empty bath, clean and run it.
deal with people who were woken up due to builder related issues who were not ready to be awake nor needed to be awake who now have some serious grumps and attitude.
delegate the tip run again with the threat that if they don't want to I WILL do it
find relevent recipe books for the hot cross bun cross bit (never remember it is actually the most simple bit)
Find to do list and get laptop set up for hitting the ground running.

Right must get clean, dressed and laundry out.

Have a good day and hope your week treats you kindly

I would love to hit the ground running today, well done hills! I have in fact spent a couple of hours lazing in bed.

po3.1
❗️Speak to colleagues/boss about event tomorrow
❗️Sort through activity sheets I printed ages ago for Cagletini
❗️LOL (not waiting till Tuesday this week as may be very busy tomorrow)

OP posts:
Dancingtomusic · 11/04/2022 09:46

Morning everyone,
Mission declutter continues...must
Shower then try and run to the shops before it gets busy...(dont actually mean run....I probably would look like a hot cross bun trying roll up the hill 😆.)
Take 3 large shopping bags of stuff to the lovely charity shop.
Return clothes that were the wrong size for lil fraggle.
Buy four six easter eggs.... for thr kids... little ones.

SingToTheSky · 11/04/2022 11:13

Right that’s all the activity stuff sorted, and drawer labels cut out (waiting for sticky pads to attach them later this week).

Still no answer about tomorrow’s event, so am a bit stressed as well as generally feeling pretty low today.

po3.2
❗️Clear up detritus from laminating/cutting out stuff
❗️Do a couple of activity sheets with Cagletini
❗️Log on to work emails and see what needs catching up on

Sing

I got woken up but the words - "the builders are due here in 30 mins" so i had to hit the ground running. It was only after I had hit the ground running I thought to question whether a reminder had been removed when a date was shifted earlier. So no builders today and wide awake and doing early was the conclusion.

I may have muttered some dark words.

Ta da
Today's lesson watching.

I need to consolidate but i also need to be out of the house at some point cos i need a walk and Easter weekend is NOT the weekend to attempt that. Waaaaaaaaaaaay to many tourists.

So i am going to crack on with what wasn't finished study wise at the weekend so that it can be at the point of only requiring consolidation without returning to the video to figure out what on earth that section was. Because i can sit on a hill after my dentist appointment and consolidate there. AND i can get a walk in because plenty of time between dentist and tea sorting. And past me found an extra pie in the freezer so the people can have pie and chips for tea. I have a craving for mac and cheese so that works out perfectly especially if i big batch the mac and cheese and shove portions into the freezer. Future me will be very happy with that life choice! Grin

BeanAnTae · 11/04/2022 13:18

well you're perky this morning Hills. Hope dentist goes well. Don't do hills if they are very peoplely.

Last day of isolation. Feel really tired. The males who make up the rest of the household are scurrying around tidying - in preparation for my return to downstairs. Grin

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/04/2022 13:25

Hills are a happy place. I have not walked in weeks because study first, life and other things have gotten in the way. So i get to go for a long stomp on a path that you need to know about as it is not so easy to find and it is the middle of the week when most the locals who know the path are gainfully employed? Soul food right there!

Now are they male cleaning or women cleaning or professional cleaner cleaning? Grin I hope the tired receeds for you in a timely manner. good luck and do try not to view the downstairs with a prefectionist eye and try to correct/improve everything all at once when you make your escape to the big wide house space....
