Hello everyone, and welcome to the April Flylady thread!
We welcome newbies and returnees - if you are curious about the system feel free to ask questions or lurk! We do follow it, erm, loosely to say the least. So there is a lot of chat about random life stuff as well as housework, decluttering and organising.

A key element of flylady is not being a perfectionist!
I don’t think the regulars would mind me saying that most of us here are not naturals at housekeeping etc, so please don’t feel we are some intimidating group who demand perfectly shined sinks. We are human. We fall off the wagon. We commiserate and help each other climb back on, and we stock the virtual naughty corner with snacks and blankets for the days when adulting is just too hard.

So, the system:
🔹Some baby steps which are designed to help you build up a routine.
🔹Daily missions to help with sprucing up particular areas in the zones, for example the first zone of the month is the entry/porch and dining room if you have one.
🔹Try and do 15 minutes decluttering a day. It didn’t get cluttered in a week so it will take a lot longer to clear it!
🔹Daily focuses to help shape the week.
🔹Here on the thread many of us post to do lists, but also “ta da” lists of things we’ve achieved that day.
🔹We also recommend the Power of Three technique - if you’re overwhelmed with too much to do, just pick three things and don’t think about the rest.

Anyway, I will post some links each day (hopefully) but whether you follow the system or not - many of us just take the bits we like or build our own flylady style system to suit our own lives - do join in if you want a place to chat about keeping a house and family running!

Finally, thank you hugely to the lovely willow for steering us beautifully through March! 💐

Yes, those who are ill do make sure you don’t overdo things!

I now have the house to myself for a bit YAY! DS’ chemistry lesson has been moved later from now on so I’ll be having my meetings upstairs while he does some work.

Will do links in a sec, sorry they are late!

I'm good at planning. Doing what is planned - not so much.

BloomingHazel · 05/04/2022 15:36

ED I love the name change!
There are some really good ideas for Easter hols on that link, my DS has had spring break already and there's no extra days off for Easter here (it's only celebrated on Sunday, really dumb!)

Ta Das so far (8:30am here):
🍈 made DH his eggs
🍈 made FIL a cup of coffee since he stopped by this morning. He didn't have to work. He wanted to see our new steps out to the patio as well as the new garage that was delivered yesterday. I didn't mind, it was a nice visit (and I was awake)
🍈 drinking my 2nd cup of coffee for the morning, catching up with the thread (currently)

To do:
🐶 wash my bedding
🐶 take dog to groomers
🐶 give said dog a bath (will be getting anal glands expressed)
🐶 clean shower after the bath
🐶 sweep out new garage
🐶 paint floor in garage with special paint
🐶 Skype mum at some point

I'll try to do more than that. I do love to paint, but not necessarily when it's not my idea 🤷‍♀️ oh well. It'll need to be done before we can use the garage and it shouldn't take long.

💐 for everyone unwell, don't overdo it, rest up and drink plenty of fluids

BeanAnTae · 05/04/2022 16:02

Well done ED spring decluttering is a good thing.

Dancingtomusic · 05/04/2022 17:40

Hi
Sorry if this a jumble....
Zoo- Yes my recliner is heavy, puts me off trying to move it.
Hills- i didnt know about the 7 yr old boy - brain change- thank you.
Willow- is part of the 7 yr old change- loosing the ability to listen? 😂
Up- Yes! Bridgerton! How far have to got?
Sing- glad I sound brighter!
Red- hope you are feeling better.

Forgive me for lack of more personals- lack of sleep is hitting me.

Sorry I havent been able to keep up, as both fraggles where unwell from friday night. Both decided that they take it in turns to cry at night, repeatedly wake and not sleep. It was torture. Then I got ill too. Kids where off ill on Monday -by 9.30am I was wishing i had sent them in! Told them if they moaned they can get dressed and I will take them school.
More broken sleep last night...dd crying at night.

This morning I told myself to get on with mission declutter at 'fraggle house.'
Dropped kids to school.
Loaded car with 2 faux leather dining chairs and 2 plastic shelving units- delievered to my dads house.
Did not linger for a chat as I wanted to get home do more sorting.
Cooked evening dinner- used pressure cooker and (managed not to blow up kitchen) to make a nice meal- 2 hours. Fed fraggles warm, homemade food.

Fraggles were so happy when they got home and played so sweetly with me with the wooden toys.
Dd has developed a horrible rumbling deep cough. Sigh.
Is it bedtime yet? 😴

HillsBesideTheSea · 05/04/2022 17:41

Seeing as the people make it a full lent, palm sunday and all the other gubbins; going to say making easter only the sunday is very appealing right now. So. much. prep.

ta da
made today errand day
run to town 45mins away and do ALL the things - took 4hrs but got almost everything on the to do list done
put up easter decorations ignoring building chaos still present
arrange appointment to get an anti procrastination thing done tomo
sort out how to get some more anti procrastination things done
put up 2 hanging baskets
sort out staking some plants up
agree with ds what he is doing for tea for himself
sort out what is to happen for tea tonight
15 mins working with the chaos on my room aka dump things on bed till find what looking for
swear upon rediscovering this when returned after errands
1 lol done
find missing inhaler

to do
hand lol up, put another in to wash
deal with chaos on bed
put food shop away
cook tea
get stuff into freezer
washing up
find paperwork for sorting tomo
regret the cup of coffee i am currently drinking.

There is more, always more that should and could be done. but meh. that lot gets done i will be happy.

HillsBesideTheSea · 05/04/2022 17:47

is part of the 7 yr old change- loosing the ability to listen? Dancing i am afraid so. I would like to say it improves, but only if you get the FULL attention throw cookies at them if they listen and repeat and acknowledge they understand HmmGrin

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/04/2022 17:54

hillshad I known throwing cookies helped I might e seen improvement Grin

Another bleurgh day
I had gut issues 2weeks ago.it settled a bit by end last week.by which time dd2 had covid.ds + friday.lil zoo + today.ffs
I've been exhausted to point tears with said gut probs.and sleeping loss.that bit hasn't left.today everything aches
I am not happy

Tada

Made it to shops for extra bread etc so if I drop they have food til the weekend
Reorganise fridge
Tidy for 20 minutes
Cry
Lay on sofa with burning skeleton and feel sorry for self

HillsBesideTheSea · 05/04/2022 17:57

Ah but you have to call individual out, hold cookies in hand waving them about whilst doing the talky bit and then only hand over the cookies on the completion of the acknolwedgement of information.

Please note: memory of information is not guarenteed but you will at least KNOW they heard and processed it in the first place...

BloomingHazel · 05/04/2022 18:28

Ta Das (almost 11:30am):
🐶 my sheets washed, dried and bed remade
🐶 took dog to groomers
🐶 Swept the Neverending leaves and buds that gather in our carport, just making a pile since I know the wind will blow more in
🐶 2 more LOLs, including towels currently in the washer
🐶 pondered the thought of sweeping out the garage and secretly hoping the wind blows it all back in so I don't have to paint 🤫

Trying to drink lots of water today, successful so far, but the afternoon is always more tricky. I still need to give dog a bath, but might be able to talk DD into doing it instead. She is her dog afterall!

Dancingtomusic · 05/04/2022 18:50

Hazel-.neverending leaves and buds.is a good way to describe it.

Hills- 🤣 i just got an image in my head of throwing a bicuits at the 7 yr old 🤣
Maybe a fishing rod style instead tho....so I dangle the cookie infront of the 7yrold- talk-check he understands- then give cookie.
(Right, I need to go buy packets of cookies - hope they are not limited 😂.)

Zoo- Flowers you sound like you are in alot of pain!Flowers poor you, sending you lots of healing soothing mineral water and a big hug. I hope resting will help! You are so kind to make sure the zoolets food. Make sure you rest. Flowers

HillsBesideTheSea · 05/04/2022 20:48

I will admit i may have bounced cookies off ds' head on one a number of occasion in the past.

Meant to say there is a growth spurt for boys this age and the hangrys can be a real thing, especially after school. ds was not human until he had eaten at this age when he came out of school. A snack just made things run on the gentler side of crazy.

Ds burnt the garlic when he was cooking the fumes are suffocating. urgh.

Dancingtomusic · 05/04/2022 21:26

Hills - oh dear, burnt garlic smell is strong.
You are absolutely right about growth spurt, my ds looks all long spindly arms and legs now. He looks much more grown up. Before my ds a slighty cubby, soft little boy.
Its true about them needing food. I will have dinner ready for when he gets from school at 3.30pm. Then he eats a small supper at 7pm after karate or swimming.
Just wondering.....
What would you send in for a 7 yr old packed lunch?

Have propped dd on very high pillows to try stop cough. Dh gone to get lintus for her.

So tired but sleep has gone. Going to play my favourite daydream - if I had a huge skip outside my house- what items would I throw in there?!

HillsBesideTheSea · 05/04/2022 21:31

No idea, ds has aspie related food issues so school lunch was not the standard thing a normal kid might eat. Hopefully one of the other fledglings can help with lunch box contents for 7yr old boys.

StillUp · 05/04/2022 21:39

Productive day Hills!

I’m on episode 4 of season 2 Dancing. I’m enjoying it, but missing drooling over the Duke

Hope you feel better soon Zoo

Ta Das today (mostly during MiniUps long post-school run nap this morning):
⏱ kitchen cupboards wiped (that’s two missions in a row ). I also did the front of the cooker.
⏱ kitchen window and glass in kitchen door cleaned
⏱ disposed of plant from kitchen window sill that is beyond saving, and cleaned up the remnants
⏱ swept and mopped all downstairs floors
⏱ swept rest of stairs with rubber broom
⏱ watched an episode of Bridgerton
⏱ reading with DD1 before she went to her DGPs for tea
⏱ renewed professional registration for the year
⏱ went down a YouTube rabbit hole (thanks Hills, enjoyed the link)

Quite pleased with the day’s achievements although I have gone to bed with the kitchen only semi tidied. Easy enough to finish in the morning. Night night fledglings!

StillUp · 05/04/2022 21:45

Can’t help much with packed lunch Dancing. I’m thankful DD eats school dinners as she’d probably starve or keel over from boredom if she was relying on me providing a packed lunch every day. When she had one at nursery for a bit when they first opened after lockdown we did a sandwich, few ritz crackers and cubes of cheese, fruit (sometimes with Greek yoghurt on) and some veg sticks. Not sure if that would work for a 7 year old but she was reasonably happy with it.

SingToTheSky · 05/04/2022 22:39

ta da
🤖Cagbunny care
🤖shower
🤖staff meeting

Don’t think I really did anything else. Am in a grump.

LoL x 3, including Christmas jumpers.
Tumble-dried nearly dry clothes from yesterday.
More batch cooking.

Support worker called in for extra joggers and hoodies for LOs. It is so cold, with constant wind and rain here. Gave her surplus milk and food from tesco delivery for holiday.

DS phoned while I was snoozing, and we had a wee chat.

Need to crack on with kitchen mission. It's tidy, but very grimy from abandoned diy that has resulted in rough edges, unfinished tiling, and similar. Wish we had decided on cupboards right up to the ceiling. It would have avoided all the accumulated junk and gunk.

Weather forecast for tomorrow is as bad as today, so no excuse for not following the missions while I'm stuck inside.

Redsquirrel5 · 06/04/2022 01:55

Bean thanks we are lucky. It is very picturesque especially in spring.

So slow to get moving but I felt better by late afternoon.
Got rid of one laundry basket. Will try for second tomorrow if I can get into bedding chest I can put the curtains in there. At the moment it has a tray of alcohol mainly gin sitting on one end and another with three decanters on. So I need to move that first.
I was happy doing the dresser so cracked on and did three shelves and wiped the top. I just have the glass, side ones to do and then wipe all the cupboard doors.
I made a tray bake around 5pm it was easy and it’s delicious.
Laundry basket 1 put away and taken downstairs.
Sewing basket on hall table for now.

Really liking the tidiness of the boudoir, just a couple more things to find homes for tomorrow.

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒to all A’s I am falling asleep

StillUp · 06/04/2022 09:54

Morning everyone.

Sounds like the boudoir is really coming nicely Red. I’m looking forward to the day we have proper wardrobes sorted and ours is the haven of peace I envisage (had a mental block there and had to Google the difference between envisage and envision, which is what autocorrect threw at me. Im determined it will actually happen so it’s definitely envisage Grin)

Hope you feel less grumpy today Sing, or get a chance to be grumpy in peace if not Flowers

MiniUp is still snoozing. I have:
🌺 Put the rest of last night’s dishes in the DW, wiped the benches and hob and swept the floor
🌺 cleaned the dining table and cleared some of the crap off it
🌺 s&s the downstairs loo
🌺 stuck on an LOL
🌺 thinned out the mountain of DD1’s school artwork and sneakily disposed of some of the older ‘models’ (mostly painted cardboard boxes with the odd pipe cleaner attached)
🌺 had breakfast
🌺 checked the flight plan. The fridge mission definitely needs done; next nap time is the plan.

Now sitting with a cuppa. Really hope these long morning naps continue. I can cope if she won’t be put down for the rest of the day if I get this hour every morning!

StillUp · 06/04/2022 09:56

Our cupboard tops are far too high and close to the ceiling to accumulate junk or reveal the gunk Tidy. It’s great as the lower ones in our old house were a pain. I feel the frustration!

HillsBesideTheSea · 06/04/2022 12:13

So i regretted that coffee til about 4am, and have been fighting with technology since 10am. Not even had coffee yet, nor breakfast so need to rectify that. But bloody hell. I hate microsoft. It is not a CD-rom drive i have plugged in you stupid piece of shit, it is the same bloody usb/ethernet adapter i have been using for 6 months that you never had a problem with until 2 weeks ago. And now randomly decide you dont want to sustain connection to so ping in and out every fecking minute.

I might have feelings, i be have been driven made. I may be seriously considering my need for microsoft based products.
