Hello everyone, and welcome to the April Flylady thread!
We welcome newbies and returnees - if you are curious about the system feel free to ask questions or lurk! We do follow it, erm, loosely to say the least. So there is a lot of chat about random life stuff as well as housework, decluttering and organising.

A key element of flylady is not being a perfectionist!
I don’t think the regulars would mind me saying that most of us here are not naturals at housekeeping etc, so please don’t feel we are some intimidating group who demand perfectly shined sinks. We are human. We fall off the wagon. We commiserate and help each other climb back on, and we stock the virtual naughty corner with snacks and blankets for the days when adulting is just too hard.

So, the system:
🔹Some baby steps which are designed to help you build up a routine.
🔹Daily missions to help with sprucing up particular areas in the zones, for example the first zone of the month is the entry/porch and dining room if you have one.
🔹Try and do 15 minutes decluttering a day. It didn’t get cluttered in a week so it will take a lot longer to clear it!
🔹Daily focuses to help shape the week.
🔹Here on the thread many of us post to do lists, but also “ta da” lists of things we’ve achieved that day.
🔹We also recommend the Power of Three technique - if you’re overwhelmed with too much to do, just pick three things and don’t think about the rest.

Anyway, I will post some links each day (hopefully) but whether you follow the system or not - many of us just take the bits we like or build our own flylady style system to suit our own lives - do join in if you want a place to chat about keeping a house and family running!

Finally, thank you hugely to the lovely willow for steering us beautifully through March! 💐

Happy belated birthday to DD2 zoo

I have been searching Amazon for a new wedding ring set, I lost my stone (fake, I don't own anything real) I'm currently wearing an old set, but want something new since I can't find the stone. I think it was at work.
Also, DD just announced that she is engaged - to someone she knows we're not exactly ecstatic about. She was nervous and thought we wouldn't love her anymore 🙄 I'm not super impressed, but not like I won't love her anymore. I just see her throwing away her dreams and not being successful, even though she graduated early from high school.
Anyway, sorry 😞 enough of me!

hills I hope your migraine eased up
Sing I love cagletini's personality!
Ooooh willow what colour blue? I'm really wanting to paint one of the rooms (possibly bathroom) a dark blue. This house needs some paint, it's too bland!
Red Hopefully your BF won't feel too terribly for missing your birthday and plans dinner or lunch for the two of you

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/04/2022 06:01

So urm, yeah night?

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 14/04/2022 08:43

Hazel this blue! It matches the wall below the picture rail.

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 14/04/2022 09:24

Sing Cagletini def has a future on the stage!
Red how lovely that your new friend thought of your birthday. Hope BF recovers from her Covid soon.
Hills night is the dark bit between dinner and breakfast

Hazel I hope DD is happy. I suppose she has your long, happy marriage to your DH as a model - do I recall correctly you were about her age when she was born? 🤞 They make a good partnership and they push each other forward. Are they genuinely planning a wedding, or engaged as a "next step"?

🍒👋 to everyone else wading through the Easter holidays!

YesTaDa
❤️ Two coats of paint on the bookshelves
🧡 Bought a car with DS2 (instead of support at Uni, as he chose not to go)
💛 Walked WillowHound with DH after tea
💚 Finished my book!
💙 2 x LOL
💜 No missions - they just don't happen in the holidays.
❤️ Emptied the house bins to put the big black bin out, and did an experiment. When DH empties indoor bins, he just leaves unlined bins in the middle of the kitchen floor so The Bin Liner Fairy (i.e. muggins here) relines them. I did the same. The Bin Liner Fairy did not come and I had to do it myself this morning 🤬.

TaDa
❤️ Did not throttle the dog when he got up for a wee and a woof at 5.45
🧡 Went back to sleep!
💛 Hot cross buns delivered by milkman for breakfast
💚 Relined bins (mutter)

To do
🌼 Easter shopping - collect lamb from butcher, last Tesco for lemonade, wine, extra potatoes etc
🌼 Start writing Easter hunts for Sunday (I always leave it til Saturday night and it gets later and later every year)
🌼 Put bookshelves where they are going to go and bolt them to the wall.
🌼 Empty existing bookshelves and list them on trash nothing (unless I can persuade DS2 to take the little one)
🌼 Possible tip run with Old Tat that has built up in the utility room.

Hoping to get out in the garden today too. And I've just been reminded it's my dog walk this morning!

SingToTheSky · 14/04/2022 11:02

Morning all. Today I lazed in bed for a while but then kept my plan to go to the gym (first time since I rejoined). Really enjoyed it!

Wowww hazel that’s huge. I can understand being worried. I think with a lot of couples that young it could naturally fizzle out though before they make any big steps.

Sorry, fell off in the Easter holiday chaos!

Sorry your friend forgot your birthday Red, but lovely that your new friend didn’t.

Sing we get the ‘ask me quiz questions!’ constantly here too. Unfortunately I’m rapidly running out of them. I’m also rubbish at making up stories.

That sounds tough re DD Hazel. I’m not looking forward to having to step back when my girls are older. Hope she either a) sees sense or b) it’s not how you fear and they remain very happy together. Hope you find a nice ring. I still can’t get mine back on post-pregnancy. It’s almost there but not quite. Taco soup sounds interesting.

Zoo you managed to pull a lovely birthday out the bag for DD.

Going to dump the last few days happenings, in no particular order:
🐣 library trip
🐣 3 x early morning walks round harbour/to park
🐣 soft play visit and lunch out
🐣 Easter crafts and cards made with DD1
🐣 token effort at some Easter decorations
🐣 got DD1 to declutter her bath toys and wash the ones she was keeping (in the baby bath, you were so right Hills). She even agreed it was time for Mouldy Mermaid to go to mermaid heaven
🐣 got DD1 to do some little bursts of tidying in her room with me
🐣 cleaned bathroom tiles
🐣 sorted outfit for upcoming wedding. I think.
🐣 checked on progress of new mortgage deal
🐣 sorted new broadband deal
🐣 some birthday party planning for DD1
🐣 expressed gallons of milk for DD2
🐣 token effort at a home bleurgh
🐣 continued to fight a brave, but ultimately losing, battle against the mess
🐣 sat down with a cuppa and requested DD1 gave me 10 minutes peace while I “read a book on the tablet” (caught up with the thread). Eventually caught up with regular requests to “look at this advert and buy me this for my birthday please mammy” (hence the limited personals).

Today I need to do some more in the bathroom and have a general tidy. We have a very busy weekend planned so I’m unlikely to get back on here until next week after today. This includes my first time leaving MiniUp for any real length of time to catch up with friends Confused. In case I don’t make it back on hope you all have a lovely Easter weekend and all manage to do something enjoyable.

SingToTheSky · 14/04/2022 11:28

Ooh up we should compare notes on quiz questions :o tbh we repeat a lot, mostly about nature and science stuff and the odd sum (as she’s memorised doubles, we aren’t at mental maths stage yet). I did get some of the lovely Usborne Beginner books as I thought it might be good to read some with her and then use that for questions. Must actually get them out and read them with her!

DH is off to do some charity stuff now so will have an easy ish day. But try and get some stuff done slowly.

Mermaid has had a good life but the black mould in the tail was not budging and seemed a likely health hazard. 🪦 🧜‍♀️

Yes we repeat a lot too. But then she gets frustrated that they are too easy, or too hard if she doesn’t know the answer. She likes animal, country and number questions. We’ll have to pre-empt each quiz with a relevant chat Grin

I have:
🐣 swept and scrubbed the embarrassingly mingling bathroom floor
🐣 cleaned the bathroom window, sill and mirror
🐣 emptied and wiped the bathroom bin
🐣 bleached out the manky toothpaste pot
🐣 washed some dishes
🐣 emptied the kitchen bin
🐣 did a 2 minute pick up

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/04/2022 12:45

Grin Thanks Willow was working through a training course. One minute it was heading up to 1am the next the sun had risen and it was very much morning.
Grabbed a few hours and trying to get going but it is a slow start this morning. Currently munching fried sausages and eggs. Food for the soul there.

ta da
delegate laundry hanging
delegate daff cutting and putting in vase
delegate dealing with the paint sheets
delegate ironing the tea towels
some one else dried up the washing on the draining board

I have a heap that needs doing so need to get going but i have about another 2hrs of training to complete which i am going to go ahead and complete first.

swallowedAfly · 14/04/2022 17:27

Just a quick wave from Egypt. No housework going on here.

Hope everyone ok. Internet too sporadic to catch up but will be back on board on Tuesday

Redsquirrel5 · 14/04/2022 22:04

All the boxes arrived safely.

They video the children opening the boxes and whoops of joy and all smiling and laughing. The mums so pleased to see the children happy amidst the sadness and chaos. Friend is going to show me the video tomorrow. Bishop was crying today. So overjoyed at what we had sent.

Did a full day in market. Only £5 until 1:30pm then a few more people. Some promises of clothes, picked friend up from station and then we had a coffee and started packing we packed nearly all of it. Just needs taping and labelling tomorrow. Got another box full of colouring books and pencils and some of the children from the church school have written wonderful messages on pieces of paper. They would make you cry. One started off...For someone who is thirsty I hope this gifted quenches your thirst. I pray for you... this was taped to a bottle of Fanta. There was a bag of sweets, an old fashioned paper bag of sweets... These are my favourite sweets I hope you like them too.
Bless them.

If nothing else it shows how much some people care.

I went to Mass and prayed for the people of Ukraine then thanked God for my friend helping these people.

No home flying.

Washed a load of toddlers clothes sent grubby and smelt. Now lovely and clean and ready for the line in the morning. Friend has gone to work 6-6.

I had my soup, bread and a doughnut. In bed with a mug of tea and Vera.

Happy flying.

Red you're doing such wonderful work supporting the efforts for Ukraine. You should be very proud. Hope the mug of tea and Vera were restorative.

Sing very well done on being brave and Peopling. Hope you can get some quiet time today to reset.

Fly lovely to see you, hope Egypt is renewing your spirit!

Hills excellent delegation skills! Do give yourself time to sleep today though, being stuffed full of knowledge but too tired to demonstrate it is no use.

Happy Good Friday, all Easter Biscuit (closest thing I can find to an HCB emoji).

❤️ Got bookshelves fixed into corner - not exactly as Ikea intended, as despite careful measuring they didn't fit . But fixed nonetheless
🧡 Tesco shop
💛 Collected lamb from butcher's
💚 Other two bookshelves emptied - DS2 will take one, the other is on Trash Nothing
💙 Primed the shelves for the bookshelf
💜 First coat of satinwood on the shelf underside
❤️ Walk into town with DD and WillowHound, and on to a friend's house to drop a card off
🧡 DS2 came round for the evening, which was lovely, but he has unaccountably failed to take the bookshelf away with him 🤷🏼‍♀️

To Do:
🐇 More painting (4-6 hrs between coats)
🐇 Usual house stuff
🐇 Write easter hunts
🐇 Beef Stroganoff for tea
🐇 Plan trip for tomorrow - we are going to the seaside!

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/04/2022 06:38

sing hope today allows you to recalibrate
Hills a reviving brekkie can work wonders
Fly enjoy your break!
*Up" have a lovely weekend, hope you don't find be away mini up too stressful
Red there's something really nostalgic about sweets in a paper bag!
Willow are the buns from milkman bakery ones or branded bread ones?(curious)

I sorted a kitchen cupboard, laundry, dip dyed dd2 hair red and napped yesterday

Today dd2 off out with dad for couple hours spending more birthday money this morning

Out of interest some say any housework should MOT be done on good friday just putting that out there....

Redsquirrel5 · 15/04/2022 08:56

Willow it’s doing me good even DH has noticed the change in me. I fell asleep just after it ended.

Up I think it is hilarious she has forgotten. New friend is grateful for help and we feel like we have known each other for years. She is missing her mum and I think I am fulfilling that role a bit for her as she can sound me out for advice. We get on so well despite the age difference.

Zoo thanks Zoo it feels good to be productive again.
Sweets- there is a sweet shop opened and they have lots of old fashioned sweets. I haven’t been in but walked past and they have lots of the big jars with them in. Cleverly they opened not far from the cinema which sells very expensive sweets. Agree about Good Friday helped me make a decision. Also our anniversary.

Fly hope you are enjoying much deserved holiday.

My legs ache. I woke at 7 but not up yet. Debated about getting up and playing catch up but decided to laze in bed as both of us going to the market this morning. Friend going to the bank to transfer some money to the church over there to distribute to people leaving, train fare etc. Due to bombing many have lost their jobs.

Going to jump up now and wash shower tray. I just rinsed it well on Wednesday. Why has it fallen to my domain when we both use the bathroom. I might ask DH to do it.

I really need to get some compost and get some seeds planted. BF son has some tomatoes for me.😃
My greenhouse is getting neglected and I was looking forward to using it. The weather is still cold up here so I waited but the greenhouse seems to be getting a lot warmer I think we put it in the right place.

Right tea needed

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 15/04/2022 09:11

Zoo they are bakery HCBs - very tasty, even more so than Tesco's! Hope DD2 has a good trip out with her dad.

Ta da:
❤️ First coat of paint today on bookshelves. Next one at midday
🧡 Breakfast
💛 Sorted out car info files as we are scrapping DS2's little car today. Naturally, everything I filed is where it should be. The most recent MOT and service, that I asked Dh and DS2 to file, is mysteriously "missing" 🤦

😁 at marshmallows! Currently tidying electronic wires storage box in spare room. Laundry underway. Need to plan Tesco shop and hand deliver post that's come to our house by mistake. Friday!

HillsBesideTheSea · 15/04/2022 10:15

Yet - Good friday has all sorts of activity restrictions, including a ban on laundry, and housework.

We had to have that discussion yesterday as people are very religious.
Easter Sunday has even more restrictions. We negotiated that Sunday would be followed by them, what i can delegate today.

Woke up with green snot, earache and sore throat from nasal drip. Hayfever season has hit hard and playing with the cat yesterday on top of all the dust I inhaled whilst forgetting asthma and allergy med was apparently a bad plan.

Today is the day for finishing the kitchen taming, not killing those who want control but don't (yes we be back in that game), dealing with those who are trying to break themselves by being stupid, and those who don't always understand things the way it is.

Thank fuck for hot cross buns and chocolate is all i can say!

SingToTheSky · 15/04/2022 11:38

🥐🥐🥐🥐🥐

It is FRIDAY woohoooo. Good Friday in fact.

So if you want to do chores, clear out your bag/car/coat pockets etc. All those crumpled receipts. Or is that just me?

The last mission of the week is to shine your bathroom counters, and in the other room, SIT AND RELAX!!!
