How to clean delicate gold chain?

viewoftree · 28/03/2022 13:02

I have used a jewelry polishing cloth to clean tarnish off a gold pendant, but the chain that goes with it is so delicate that there's a risk of breaking it if I scrub it with a polishing cloth. A polishing cloth would anyway not be an effective way of cleaning it. Is there some liquid product that I could put the chain in to remove tarnish? Thanks for any suggestions!

Most jewellers sell a liquid that you literally just put jewellery in and leave to soak. It is good stuff.

That sounds perfect! Do you happen to know what it’s called?! Wondering whether I can get it online…

Buy an ultrasonic jewellery cleaner, about £20 or so, you can also clean other items in them.

I use Hagerty Silver Clean for items in my shop. They do a Gold Clean too. The Professional version of Silver is definitely better than the Personal version!

Thank you so much for the replies!

@MyKingdomforaNameChange Don’t know whether I’m being thick, but I can’t tell whether this Hagerty gold clean is personal or professional! Do you know which it might be, please?! Thanks!

If you've posted a photo I can't see it :( But it says which it is on the packaging :) If you scroll in on the product photo you should be able to see it.

Hi, it’s this. It doesn’t seem to say which it is!

Sterident works a treat for mine

@viewoftree, maybe they only do one for gold. It's definitely worth a try anyway, the silver ones are great - I use professional as I have lots of jewellery in the shop and it's quick, I tried the personal version and it was fine but things needed to sit in it for a bit longer :)

Thank you! I’ll give it a go!
