Induction hob protective cover - are they any good?

Does anyone use one of these?

I'm just about to get an induction hob fitted and someone suggested I get one of these induction hob covers, which you can place between the hob and the saucepan while cooking to protect the hob from being scratched.

I once had a Lakeland thing for the bottom of the oven which was supposed to catch grease etc. and the first time I used it, it left a stain on the bottom of the oven so I'm a bit wary of these things which purport to protect your stuff and save you from having to clean it but leave horrible stains.

OTOH I hadn't really considered how pans might scratch the surface of the hob and make it look crap. Is this really a big problem?

What's the verdict?

I have had an induction hob for five years and there is not a mark on it. I cook, wipe it off and that is it - no special treatment at all. I love it, so easy and quick.

The only thing I was warned about was not to drag pans across it, just to lift them and place them on the 'ring'.

We've had our hob for almost 4 years now, no protective cover, and there's not one single mark on it. I really don't think you need one, unless there's something you're not telling us (I can't think what, though).

Induction hob here too, no need for a cover IMO, just wipe.

That's reassuring.

I have 2 adult but young kids, one a teenager, just wondering if the sort of induction hobs that get scratched, are in homes with that age group?

Mine was installed in May last year, no problems whatsoever, my DH does all the cooking and he isn’t exactly careful. No marks at all.
