Advice please on a cheaper washing machine.

My 96 year old Mum's miele has finally given up the ghost after 24 years. At this stage of her life I don't think it's worth paying a lot for a replacement so I'd like to buy a more affordable machine.

Any recommendations for brands that are reliable at this price point please? She wouldn't need a large capacity machine and needs to do a few washes a week.

I used the sell white goods for John Lewis and can recommend Beko and Indesit as good value, good quality brands. Had my £180 Indesit for 8 years before it gave up.

Just an observation about current washing machines: due to eco credentials taking paramount importance, washing machines nowadays seem to have ridiculously long standard washing cycles (eg 3 hours). You can select a shorter cycle (eg 1 hour) but your mother will need to learn how to do that on the particular machine - it's no longer as simple as turn the dial to your usual wash and press the "on" button.
I have just bough a Bush washing machine- £200, it has a 15 minute cold wash cycle ( perfect for freshening up cardigans etc)
Programme is set with a dial and an on /off button.

We have this one - ao.com/product/ewd71453wukn-indesit-my-time-washing-machine-white-88266-1.aspx

It’s been fantastic. Better than the expensive ones we’ve had before.

I've got this Hoover machine in the bigger wash load size. It's great, does a 14 min quick wash, a 59 min up to 60 degrees daily wash, hand wash, adjustable temperatures, delay timer and really easy to use. Mine is used daily, it's 5 years old and never broken down - great for £279.

I've got the same one. I'd recommend it as well - my other appliances are muele and bosch, but this does everything perfectly and usually on the 15 or 30 minute washes.

I just bought a hisense washing machine, it is the quietest washing machine I have ever had, when it's on a 1400 spin you can be standing next to it and not know. The cycles are a bit long but it's a 10kg so more in less washes needed. It was only £300ish.
