HELP! Advice needed on how to rectify NYE party damage

FriedGreenTomatoes · 01/01/2008 18:01

Had a party last night. All went well. But this morning we noticed that someone spilled a drink over the mantelpiece. And underneath it had been coloured streamers. So now my limestone mantelpieces is stained with multi colour streaks . Cleaning has not removed it. Any ideas on what might work? Do I risk bleaching it? Aaarrrggghhh!!!

what about one of those flash or JML magic eraser type sponge things?

i think id try one of those 1st

Don't bleach it, don't get it wetter than necessary. Agree try a magic eraser but go easy with the water.

Ooh, I think I have a JML eraser thingy somewhere - maybe in the loft? (Hid it away after hearing it can cause horrible skin reactions on children). I'll dig it out and have a go with it. Thanks! If that fails, I'll just have to buy a new mantle piece - eeek!!

Someone told me that toothpaste was good for getting stains out of lime stone.

BettySpaghetti · 02/01/2008 13:14

I once saw a link on here to a site that told you how to get stains out of all sorts of things. You literally had to fill in the blanks of " How to get -- out of ---". Hopefully someone will know what I'm on about and provide a link.

Smartie - I'll have a look to see if we have white toothpaste, but I think all of our toothpaste has blue gel stripes in

Betty - that website sounds great. I will hunt around for it.

Thanks!
