Am considering a "feature" wall in main bedroom with one of the nice patterned wallpapers in the shops at moment - i do like them but wondering if wallpaper is a bit over with now and maybe just paint instead? bedroom is really plain - cream walls cream carpet taupe roman blinds so it needs something!! any ideas welcome

I hope not! We've wallpapered our fireplace wall (sticks out) in gorgeous Laura Ashley wallpaper and I think it looks fab. I could be wrong but I think you should go for it

JackieNo · 31/12/2007 15:50

Don't know if it's over or not, but I think that if you like it, do it - it's your bedroom, so presumably not very many visitors will see it anyway.

feature wallpaper is great! Go for it!

Laura Ashley wins for me almost every time (and we looked absolutely everywhere). It's slightly more expensive than others, which is why we only used it on one wall! We have this one www.lauraashley.com/invt/3260629&bklist= and I looove it. The colours area ctually a lot nicer than they appear on that link. B and Q also have really good new ranges in though.

I've just done my fireplace wall too. Brown and Lime. 'Tis lovely.

God no, wall paper is very much alive and on trend.

cleaninglady · 31/12/2007 18:33

i like the idea of brown and lime now! will be going shopping this week and should only need 2 rolls so hopefully be quite easy to do I have a pale blue silk throw or a silk stripey one in various shades of brown for the bed - which one do you think? I have been doing the creams/browns thing for a number of years now so wonder if im brave enough to go for more colour?

Brown and lime work well as do brown and teal, which is what I am doing in my dining room.

cleaninglady · 31/12/2007 18:37

maybe something like this or to OTT?

I have creams and browns and was getting a bit bored so I added in Blue/green duck egg by way of Laura Ashley Kimono wallpaper and curtains (the curtains have the main flower duck egg but also have cream and brown in them)

All matches lovely

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 31/12/2007 18:42

My paper was from B&Q

twinsetandpearls · 31/12/2007 18:44

I have seen that one, I don't think it is OTT but you need to accessorise carefully.

cleaninglady · 31/12/2007 18:55

I am quite minimal in accessories so hoping the wallpaper will be the main feature of the room - Im a bit of a tidy freak so will keep it simple ! have seen a few nice ones on Laura Ashley website so will be off to Nantwich this week as the sales are still on as well Thanks for your comments!

I love wallpaper - I much prefer it to painted walls. Painted walls look like a cheapo job to me.

janmoomoo · 01/01/2008 20:07

Agree wallpaper is good, but only big pattern on one wall as a feature. Some of the B&Q ones are blumin gorgous, I am going to go for some of those when I get around to redecorating. Previous occupant wallpapered my new house throughout in beige pattern or pale blue pattern wallpaper with a border, dado rail AND picture rail - hideous, looks like a pub!
