Shower hair degunger

I've seen lots of ads for those bendy implements you stick down the shower drain/plughole that pull out loads of hair. Do any of them actually work and if so can I have links to ones you recommend please?

If there's another thread with all these recommendations on already please feel free to link to that. I searched but couldn't find a specific thread about these bendy wire type things.

I just shove an old toothbrush down there and give it a good whisk around. I'm always shocked at the amount of hair I get out.

I pour caustic soda down mine to dissolve the hair.

£2 in Robert Dyas. Bargain.

It's strong stuff though so be careful with it.

I use a crochet needle I borrowed from one of my DDs crafts sets. The little hook on the end is perfect for getting hold of the hair!

Cable ties are supposed to work. We use Buster every few months.

I usually use chemicals but am trying to be more environmentally friendly. I use an old toothbrush in the sink because it's a wide hole. Unfortunately the grate in the shower plug hole stops me from getting anything but thin things down there. Hence the bendy wire things looked best.

I have the orange/yellow plastic long thin things with Velcro on the end and the handle part twists around so that the Velcro twists and catches all the hair. It's very satisfying dragging it out. Bit tricky then getting it off the Velcro but you do. I don't have a link but Amazon do them. Wouldn't be without it.

Lakeland sell a wire/hook thing called a drain weasel - I haven't used it myself but the reviews are good.

mommybear1 · 05/02/2022 17:40

Drain Weasel are good but I'd recommend you put a hair catcher in under the shower drain lid or over the top it will stop the majority.

FurbleSocks · 05/02/2022 20:48

Annoyingly the design of the plug hole doesn't allow for a hair trap unfortunately.

I got a long metal grabby thing from eBay but it was too bulky to fit down the plug hole very far.

I find the best thing is when I wash my hair I try to pull all my loose hairs from my head when I’m lathering so they don’t end up in the plug hole. I just stick them to the shower wall until I get out.

Caaarrrl · 05/02/2022 21:05

Drain weasel is amazing.

FurbleSocks · 09/02/2022 22:14

Amazing is the word I would use to describe this monster that I pulled from my plughole with the Drain Weasel.

I even got my DH and DC to come and look at it I was so amazed and appalled Grin

It also stank like something had died in there so definitely doing it more often!

Omg that is grim but wonderful. I need me one of these.

RandomMess · 09/02/2022 22:50

Our plug pulls up and out (need to be firm) ways a lovely long hunk of hair!

MrsGatsby99 · 12/02/2022 04:06

Yes, they work. Disgusting but they work. Reminder me I need to do this again. I try and do it every month/ six weeks. The first time is the worst!! But strangely satisfying. I just got a generic pipe cleaner from Amazon. It looks similar to the Drain Weasel!

Would the oxo covers work for you (they also have a design for a pop up plug). I have these on both my showers & haven’t had to deal with any hair snakes since

On the bath I pull the pop up plug out, use this when showering & switch the pop up plug back on if I want a bath
