Oven door shattering - DIY replacement possible?

My outer oven door shattered quite spectacularly this evening.
I think that the repair I did earlier today was the cause. The oven door handle (a bar) had detached on one side so I had a look and reckoned I could fix it with a washer so I did. I then turned the oven on and as it heated the outer door exploded.

The whole thing shattered everywhere and I can now see the screw and washer holding the handle on also had a plastic washer between the metal. This was not visible through the small gap I could see before.

So was it the metal washer being in contact with the glass in the oven door as it heated up that caused this? I feel very foolish now.

I see it is possible to buy replacement own doors. I wonder how straight forward it would be to fit it myself. I don’t fancy having to buy a whole new oven and pay an electrician to fit it due to a silly error.

Any advice ?

This happened to me! We fitted a new glass door although ex wanted to get a new oven.

Didn't fit a new washer though, this just happened. It fell vertically off its moorings and smashed on the tiled floor.

Have you looked on e-spares? They have videos on how to fix things, which may give you more confidence.
