Fledglings bolt into Spring! Fresh air, fresh flowers, fresh sheets – No fledgling left behind…

Thread starts on 1 February, but you are welcome to land and say hello until then
Thank you to Hills who has given us a tour-de-force thread for the deepest, darkest days of January when we were all flagging. We all know you are really busy and appreciate the time you took to go in depth with the baby steps.
Welcome to Flylady if you are a newbie or a regular fledgling– it is a zone based cleaning system, spread out over 4-6 weeks (depending on how the month falls.) The zones cover different areas of the home so we concentrate on a particular zone in a given week. But there is also a weekly hour of cleaning (can be split into 10 min segments) to make sure the bins are emptied, main areas hoovered, sheets changed – you get the drift…
And each day of the week has a focus – Thursday is errand day for example.

So , today is Tuesday 1 February – the first day of Spring if you are joining us in the North Hemisphere or Happy Autumn to those in the South. This thread brings you right up to Pancake Tuesday which is 1 March 2022.
Flylady site
This week we are in 2 Zones:
Zone 5: The Living Room
Zone 1: The Entrance, Front Porch and Dining Room
February Habit: Decluttering for 15 Minutes a Day

Monday – Weekly Home Blessing
Tuesday – Plan and Play
Wednesday – Anti-Procrastination Day
Thursday – Errand Day
Friday – Clean-out your Purse and Car Day
Saturday – Family Fun Day
Sunday – Renew your Spirit Day

It is plan and play day on Tuesdays – I usually plan menus and things to do on Tuesdays but the system is customisable to what works for you and your life.
Feel free to jump onto the thread and post your To Do list of household and family stuff achieved and, if you like, post your Ta Da list when you’ve got stuff done. We all encourage each other along and we all have different lives, pressures etc and we are not at all precious about the system – it can be used as you see fit. For example I don’t clean my dining room in zone 1 as it’s part of my living area so I do it in zone 5.
There is a general mantra of ‘No fledgling left behind’ which basically means you can’t fall behind in the system – you just start up again. So there’s no need for a massive Spring Clean – you just jump in.
Some jargon has evolved over the years, for example – cherry waves was an autocorrect of cheery waves, the pointy stick ---> is sometimes requested if you are having particular problems with procrastination and the naughty corner which is where we collapse to take a break.
As well as ‘To Do’, I’m going to try ‘To Be’ because I’m a Human Being not just a Human Doing. So my aim is to be more present (on the thread and in my head!) and more positive. I live far north in the UK so it is pretty dark here at the moment and I am SO looking forward to more daylight. And a shiny sink!

I have a crush on Dilly from Sort Your Life Out. I'm going to reward myself with watching this: between short bursts of getting things done.

All I've done so far is change my patches and sort them all out in my meds folder for the month and watch the last episode of SYLO and google the lovely Dilly.

Good luck with ceiling Wassailing - that is arm achy work!

SingToTheSky · 05/02/2022 08:11

Dilly is a force to be reckoned with! :o carpenter guy (forget his name) is a genius - would love some of his storage solutions in our house.

bean 💕

It’s bunny day!!! Excited but nervous as no idea how she will settle in. The others have just left for the convention. Cagletini isn’t awake yet, I’ll leave her a bit longer as she had a rough night.

po3.1
❗️Read a chapter while it’s nice and quiet
❗️Get Cagletini up and ready for ballroom, and get dressed myself
❗️Pack bag, check I have keys etc and leave around 9.45

swallowedAfly · 05/02/2022 09:15

Hope you had a nice read in peace Sing.

tada:
-took dog out
-put on lol
-folded clothes from drying rack
-bit of kitchen tidying
-dealt with some admin chores
-fed cat
-brushed cat
-let cat out, attempted to let cat in x3 when she was meowing only for her to sit looking at me but not come in Hmm

Having a rest in bed now. Next up hanging out washing and plugging in the shredder I borrowed before Christmas and actually using it - tons of stuff in various spaces around the house to be shredded.

HillsBesideTheSea · 05/02/2022 09:40

bunny day sing?

insomnia sucks. earache sucks. tinitus sucks.

But although i have no fixed plans to walk and a stress/lack of sleep migraine that keeps threatening. I think i am going to head out for a long walk. It is nice to walk with company but sometimes you just need to walk. And it is not a terrible day out there. Just need to find clothes and figure out where. Thanks to sodding covid people have discovered my favourite walking places and it means that my peace and quiet is littered with people clutter.

I am here

Save me from life i am drowning

WildPoinsettia · 05/02/2022 11:41

Red I love all the graffiti art in Bristol. It's one of my favourite places.

Congratulations on the new bunny Sing hope they settle in ok.

Throws THAT a life-saver ring. It's neon pink and green camo coloured to suit the dramatic mood.

I feel better today. Seem to be having a brain freeze and can't think what I'm going to do.

BeanAnTae · 05/02/2022 11:49

Throws life ring to That while doggy paddling furiously herself Grin

Hang in there That - it's Saturday, it's early February, it's Spring, it's all doable.

Thanks for the concern Wassail - unfortunately things going pear shaped last week with difficult customers/colleagues means that I am behind with work and so am going to catch up today and tomorrow. I had a complete teary meltdown at home with choking sobs and I-want-to-run-away-and-live-somewhere-else-and-have-a-different-life running through my head but clearly that episode was cathartic although I do feel a little stunned this morning.

With regard to PIL your dh might find Connevans website useful - I know them from my assistive tech days and they have useful kit for older people. I do sympathise re all the documentation for the car - usually historians such as myself like reading old documentation but I would think this stuff is just too boring and too modern Grin

Merry - hope that you do not have covid and that you have recovered from too many wine gums. Do not read the Amazon reviews about sugar free gummi bears and excessive consumption thereof Grin

Hills - you are on the money about pushing aside what helps the most when the going gets tough. I have not been out for a walk recently so that needs to happen. My perspective has crumbled.

Swallowedafly - fuel crisis, crikey up here it gets really cold and we had snow yesterday. That said unless you are loaded, our houses are designed to be small and conserve heat. I mean I have tiny hallways and low ceilings as does every other house in this estate. I think we are going to have to increase jumper wearing and be mindful to close doors. I also thoroughly recommend fleece bed linen - it's like sleeping inside a teddybear and has revolutionised my life.

Right - it's lunchtime. I'm going to tidy up some work and do a little stretching and onwards to family fun.

I feel really nauseous for some reason.

Have hung out washing, put away some washing and gotten ds to do the same. Now feeling sick and back in bed. Still, washing has been done - just need to do a lights load tomorrow and all uniform etc is set till half term and I cooked a proper meal yesterday so don't feel too bad if ds eats noodles and crap today.

Have lists of things to do if/when I perk up.

swallowedAfly · 05/02/2022 11:57

I had a complete teary meltdown at home with choking sobs and I-want-to-run-away-and-live-somewhere-else-and-have-a-different-life running through my head - that was me earlier in the month! Where's 'up here'?

That - come join me in the heated throw section of the naughty corner.

IWasWillingToGoWassailing · 05/02/2022 13:05

Have spent the morning up a ladder. Painting not happening today, there's too much prep - have just seen how much of a mess the Building Company Of Which We Do Not Speak made of putting in the window. Will be spending this afternoon cutting out sealant and doing a mini-replaster round window 🤦.

Bean I'm really sorry work is crap and things for your health have slid (I do that too). Hope you can get outside today.

Swallowed really sorry to hear about nausea.

Zoo well done for telling DD2 those who don't contribute don't benefit. Time to read the Little Red Hen again? 😂

Po3

  1. Lunch
  2. Swap washing over
  3. Back up ladder

SingToTheSky · 05/02/2022 13:38

Phew, home from my morning out with Cagletini. All good until the end, when she was upset that we couldn’t go upstairs on the double decker again, as I was in a lot of pain by then.

Which was then compounded by some passive aggressive twat making a comment to his friend that the seat I was in was for disabled people.

I’m never brave enough to call people out on their assumptions, best I could manage was accidentally holding my DISABLED bus pass so they could see it. 😳 I barely leave the house these days let alone use the buses, I might just have to dig out my “please offer me a seat” badge. Or grow a thicker skin!

Anyway. Onto better things because today is BUNNY DAY!!! Hopefully Cagletini cheers up soon. I’ve opened the window but will do a bit of a room rescue shortly.

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/02/2022 16:12

It makes me furious with people's assumptions sing pre covid D's wearing a sunflower lanyard in supermarket(opened a fresh til as he was get a bit agitated ,pacing) got us similar."pipe down and look for the kindness towards others "my aunt would've said to him..I couldn't find those nice words in my moment of fury so went for a less polite"not all illnesses are visible ,especially to the ignorant" whoops.not my finest hour, but the lady at the til smirked and was nice to us....
Wassail gawd, hope the ladder job is easy to sort, and you aren't over doing it...

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/02/2022 16:13

I opted for a nap, which took ages to fall asleep because of indigestion,so I feel I've wasted a couple hours.i may now get up and complete more stuff

HazelNuttyElf · 05/02/2022 16:24

Sing some people are so rude! Exciting news about the bunny though, hopefully she settles in nicely

wassailing that looks like a lot of work. You couldn't get them to come back and fix it? Although I would understand if you don't want them touching anything in your house again!

zoo well done for holding your ground with DD2, that's good that the girls stepped up and did something to make their room better

Bean sorry to hear to had a rough day at work. I hope you're able to have some down time and quiet time before going back. Here spring starts March 20th, and still no sign of warming up yet 🥶

Sorry for no more personals. I have to start moving this morning. I got asked to go into work (2nd job) and need to get dinner prepped before going in.
🍒👋 to everyone

IWasWillingToGoWassailing · 05/02/2022 16:43

Sing that's rubbish PA crap, I hope they noticed the buspass and felt dreadful. Zoo your response was entirely reasonable.

Hazel you're right, we'd not let them in the house again! It's part of an extension done in 2007, we think they under-specc'd the cost then cut corners to pull their profit back. We've basically had to redo most of it, piecemeal, in the last 15 years. This window has been re-seated once already as they sat it on a wooden batten they forgot to weather-proof and it rotted so the whole thing dropped a quarter-inch and wouldn't open or close properly. However, I have now managed to patch both side of the window and DH is coming home with sealant.

I am not doing too much because, despite 4 hours up a ladder (which is apparently only 1400 steps. Rubbish!) I am.now in the bath with a cup of tea and 8 mini-eggs (apparently a portion!) and tea will be ordered in. Because we can.
