Fledglings bolt into Spring! Fresh air, fresh flowers, fresh sheets – No fledgling left behind…

Thread starts on 1 February, but you are welcome to land and say hello until then
Thank you to Hills who has given us a tour-de-force thread for the deepest, darkest days of January when we were all flagging. We all know you are really busy and appreciate the time you took to go in depth with the baby steps.
Welcome to Flylady if you are a newbie or a regular fledgling– it is a zone based cleaning system, spread out over 4-6 weeks (depending on how the month falls.) The zones cover different areas of the home so we concentrate on a particular zone in a given week. But there is also a weekly hour of cleaning (can be split into 10 min segments) to make sure the bins are emptied, main areas hoovered, sheets changed – you get the drift…
And each day of the week has a focus – Thursday is errand day for example.

So , today is Tuesday 1 February – the first day of Spring if you are joining us in the North Hemisphere or Happy Autumn to those in the South. This thread brings you right up to Pancake Tuesday which is 1 March 2022.
Flylady site
This week we are in 2 Zones:
Zone 5: The Living Room
Zone 1: The Entrance, Front Porch and Dining Room
February Habit: Decluttering for 15 Minutes a Day

Monday – Weekly Home Blessing
Tuesday – Plan and Play
Wednesday – Anti-Procrastination Day
Thursday – Errand Day
Friday – Clean-out your Purse and Car Day
Saturday – Family Fun Day
Sunday – Renew your Spirit Day

It is plan and play day on Tuesdays – I usually plan menus and things to do on Tuesdays but the system is customisable to what works for you and your life.
Feel free to jump onto the thread and post your To Do list of household and family stuff achieved and, if you like, post your Ta Da list when you’ve got stuff done. We all encourage each other along and we all have different lives, pressures etc and we are not at all precious about the system – it can be used as you see fit. For example I don’t clean my dining room in zone 1 as it’s part of my living area so I do it in zone 5.
There is a general mantra of ‘No fledgling left behind’ which basically means you can’t fall behind in the system – you just start up again. So there’s no need for a massive Spring Clean – you just jump in.
Some jargon has evolved over the years, for example – cherry waves was an autocorrect of cheery waves, the pointy stick ---> is sometimes requested if you are having particular problems with procrastination and the naughty corner which is where we collapse to take a break.
As well as ‘To Do’, I’m going to try ‘To Be’ because I’m a Human Being not just a Human Doing. So my aim is to be more present (on the thread and in my head!) and more positive. I live far north in the UK so it is pretty dark here at the moment and I am SO looking forward to more daylight. And a shiny sink!

That is indeed A Day Wassail Flowers. Get yourself to bed before anything else goes wrong.

Good luck for tomorrow Sing, you’ll be grand.

We didn’t make it out for the walk Bean as the rain got heavier and heavier. I didn’t mind too much although it meant DD1 had quite a bit of energy to burn off by this evening, which she did by prancing round the place, bouncing on the sofas despite repeatedly being told not to, waving her legs in the air and generally just driving me mad Grin

I like Dettol mould and mildew spray for the pinkness Fly. Spray it on. Walk away and go on MN for 5 30 minutes then rinse off. T’is magic.

Definitely have some work to do in zone 3. The floor is in dire need of a proper clean. Might even attempt a home bleurgh tomorrow if DD2 plays ball. My only ta da to report is the ironing of school uniform and a few other bits, plus I have two clean and sleeping DC.

BeanAnTae · 13/02/2022 21:37

Hands wassail the heavy casserole dish with the nasty crack from ED's kitchen for use on rodent or husband.

Were ds3's parents at home at all?

OP posts:
BeanAnTae · 13/02/2022 21:37

Sorry, friend's parents.

What a day wassail

I can’t bloody believe it’s Monday tomorrow. I’m nervous - I know I say that a lot about work while I get used to various tasks!

I'm the same ATM sing. I know it's good for me but still. Good luck with the in person talk. Just be yourself!

BeanAnTae · 13/02/2022 21:42

That is quite enough in terms of ta das Stillup you've done well with a new baby. Thanks for the dettol tip for the pink slime. I had no idea it was caused by a bacterium. I thought it was a side effect of a chemical used in shampoo. I'm a bit horrified 😱

Mc3209 · 13/02/2022 21:42

wassailling what a crapper of a day. On the up side it can only get better. If it's of any consolation, mine wasn't much better. In fact, half way through the day I realised I had my pants on inside out. Tomorrow is always another day.
Sing best of luck for work, it will be fab!
Hazel peanut butter truffles. Yum!
Fly oh definitely do the form. It will be worth it for your peace of mind.

I was working this weekend, came back home to find piles of laundry not done, kitchen a tip, toys everywhere, fish not fed, DS crying, and DH grumpy. He clearly is not coping looking after DS on his own. I am seriously considering looking for ad hoc nanny to cover my out of hours commitments to spare my sanity. DS is settled in nursery just fine, so it's not like he cannot settle for anyone. Just seem to be an issue with DH. I just don't know if such a thing as ad hoc nanny even exists..

Mc3209 · 13/02/2022 21:44

I second the Dettol mould and mildew for serratia pink stuff in the bathroom. I have to regularly blast the stuff with it.

BeanAnTae · 13/02/2022 21:49

MC would there be someone from the nursery who would like to pick up some babysitting hours at the weekend?

Perhaps DH could get the housework done if the baby was off his hands for a few hours, though God knows we all seem to manage to multitask!

OP posts:
Mc3209 · 13/02/2022 22:00

Bean I was thinking of that actually, that would be absolutely ideal, as he would already know them. I shall ask tomorrow.

BeanAnTae · 13/02/2022 22:13

MC a friend did this at our workplace crèche (which is really excellent) and it was just perfect as the child got continuity of care and it was occasional so not too taxing on the childcare practitioner.

Wassailling oh nowhat a pig of a day. DH might have got ‘dinner is in the dog’ here.

DH did 2x LOL of his own while I was out. He knows I don’t like washing on Sundays. Means it is free for my sheets tomorrow.

Mass, coffee assisting, lunch, choir, pub.

Enjoyed choir managed some of the descants so with practice I should be able to do them. Bit hoarse afterwards hence pub for a medicinal whisky. Stayed longer than we should have. Fun!

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/02/2022 04:17

Hills cake and custard is deffo breakfast food!
I've had two hours sleep again

IWasWillingToGoWassailing · 14/02/2022 07:41

Apols for pity party last night. Felt better just to write it all down and see it was actually as shit as I thought it was. I have pulled on my big girl pants and today is a new day.

Mc sorry you came home to chaos. If it helps, at all, the first time DH looked after DS1, when he was 7 weeks old, I came home at 6pm to find both of them in their pyjamas, having got through 4 pairs of trousers each! I second the idea of someone from nursery to help, DS2's GF gets quite a bit of babysitting that way.

Bean, Sing hope work today is ok, sorry it's making you tense. Bean, DH has a blindspot with putting shopping away. I shop, I put it away. He shops, he leaves it on the table, I put it away 🤔. Odd that.

Ta da:
❤️ Tea. Lots of it. Used up the torn teabag by putting it in the infuser
🧡 Checked utility / cloakroom. Rodent may have been in cloakroom (dog is still trying to insert himself behind sink) but no further since we made sure the door was shut over night. Damn me, these modern inventions like doors are clever.
💛 Updated calendar in kitchen so there are no nasty surprises this week.

To do:
🐕 Dog walk, as DH has 9am call
📚 Weekly planning that went by the wayside yesterday
🛌 Change our bed and get DH to rotate mattress between calls
📚 Work
🧺 Hand out six loads of clean washing. Cannot seem to Routine this. When the DC were small I did it while the bath was running at 6pm, but life is very different now and it's the thing that gets lost first. When do the rest of you do it?
📚 Actual work
🪡 Sewing for friend
🍪 Bake Valentine's biscuits, cos I can (and I like HM jammie dodgers)
📚 Chilli for dinner
🫖 Order loose leaf tea for DD.

Best get on, I suppose.

ExtremelyDelighted · 14/02/2022 08:02

Clean washing handout? Tends to be in the evening before bed or after getting dressed in the morning. I sort it into piles by owner and put it in their designated spot (hidden corner of the landing for DS, bedroom floor for DD, side of bed for DH who chucks it on the floor at bedtime but so long as it's on his side I've given up caring. I put mine away as soon as it is sorted. Sorry yesterday was such a catalogue of woe Wassail - onwards and upwards.

ExtremelyDelighted · 14/02/2022 08:03

Not letting the washing accumulate till the weekend is my issue, especially as we are trying to use the tumble dryer less so it needs to be spaced through the week

swallowedAfly · 14/02/2022 08:33

Oh they're lucky they're all still in one piece Wassailing - you're not their servant!

I'm just persuading myself to get out of bed and get started with the day, or trying to. Catching up with thread first. So far I've refilled my meds box for the week and checked emails.

Thanks for the pink stuff tip Still and yes I was a bit grossed out too Bean.

I guess:
-sort and put on lol
-make coffee
-take dog out
-feed animals
-bring up some clothes to put away.

Then after coffee:
-declutter and organise bathroom cupboards
-clean bathroom mirror
-start on shower screen.

I also need to start moving furniture in my room and clear out some more of the broken drawers. I guess I'm on bathroom and bedroom.

SingToTheSky · 14/02/2022 08:47

Morning all! I am on my second train of the day. Just bloody glad it was getting light when I woke up.

Wassail don’t apologise for the well justified rant! Re washing, the big two have their own baskets in their rooms so I don’t need to hand out much - sometimes when DH washes stuff he shoves anything around in the WM and then it needs handing out in dribs and drabs which annoys me no end 😳 so I’ve told him to leave all laundry to me (really not unfair since he does the majority of most other main house tasks) and my plan is to wash everything on Tuesday (obv this is just 3 people’s) and put away Wednesday evening.

YesTaDa
🍰put laundry away as I’d been too tired on Wednesday and every day since!
🍰2 LOLs, as above
🍰big discussion with DD1 re school
🍰booked a load of tesco slots and put in diary
🍰bit of work/prep for today
🍰some anti procrastinating messages
🍰rotated DW
🍰Cagbunny care (litter tray, hay, food etc)

StillUp · 14/02/2022 08:58

I’d like to retract last night’s suggestion that I might attempt the home bleurgh today, and also the statement about sleeping DC.

To do:
Drink coffee

BeanAnTae · 14/02/2022 09:01

Still that sounds sensible. Who put the home cleaning hour in Monday anyway, duh?

OP posts:
StillUp · 14/02/2022 09:02

My laundry sorting gets done whenever Wassail. I tend to take it off the airer and fold it into the basket as part of my morning routine then I carry it up when I next go upstairs and it gets dumped on the landing. The next time I go up i go through it and put it in the relevant room. At some other point I put mine and the DC’s away. DH might do his when he gets in from work/goes to bed, or it might lie in a heap in the floor for a week while he complains he can’t find his joggers and his sock drawer is empty Hmm

swallowedAfly · 14/02/2022 11:33

Well done Sing. Hope it all goes well.

I typed my message on here then lost hours on the internet looking at things to buy unnecessarily. I despair of myself.

Ta da:
dog walked
coffee finally made
lol on
recycling out.

I'm treating parents to lunch on Wednesday for a late anniversary gift and out with a friend on Thursday for lunch. So today, tomorrow, Friday and weekend for 'getting things done'. Today isn't looking too hopeful so far.

SingToTheSky · 14/02/2022 12:17

Caffeinating is always a good plan. I cracked open a can of Coke as soon as I got to the meeting room as I had 15m before everyone else arrived 🤣

It went well. Thank you all so much for the encouragement 💕 my colleague did manage to get there too so we shared it which helped, but I stayed to the end and weighed in on some other topics :o it’s funny this job, as the nature of our role means that we are often the only non professionals in the room. Which can be intimidating. But it’s certainly helping me get more assertive! And in fact my boss said the team can benefit from my more softly softly approach rather than wading in 🤣

Had a little wander along the high street and I’m now having a blissfully quiet pub lunch before getting the train home. I also discovered this town has a board game cafe!!!

Monday feels a little bit brighter now the scary bit is done.

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/02/2022 12:30

I am 2 coffees in 3 lectures in and I am losing the will today.
3 lectures to go and going to be honest tackling the bombsite that is the kitchen is looking appealing at this point.

Am home and have rested a bit. Thankfully the weather held out other than a little rain when I got off the bus at our stop! Going to log on to laptop now as I have a horrible feeling I’ve double or even triple booked myself… 😬
