Laundry Eggs

Has anyone used the laundry eggs? Are they any good? Do you use them completely in place of detergent and softener or in addition to? Looking for some more eco friendly ideas for round the house as I seem to be hammering through bottles of fairy conditioner and laundry tabs.

Thanks

I use them for stuff that isn’t really dirty or marked but needs a wash. They’re fine and they do work. If something was very dirty though I’d also use a half dose of washing powder along with the egg

They dont really work, laboratory testing found they clean as well as you were using just water.
I returned mine after a few months.

@NameChangeCity123 I’ve switched to using powder, comes in a cardboard box and literally lasts forever compared to the tabs etc. and so so much cheaper. And I’m sure it gets the clothes cleaner!

sheroku · 09/01/2022 19:04

Yeah I gave up on these unfortunately. Tried for a good few months but found my clothes smelled worse after a wash than before! Maybe laundry powder is the way.

picklemewalnuts · 09/01/2022 19:08

I've not used powder for a good long while- the egg works fine.

If an item was stained I'd rub it soap first.

DS uses detergent pods, so the machine gets soap through every week.

@NameChangeCity123 even if you use the egg every other load, you'd save loads of detergent and money.

This could be a good switch without compromising on cleanliness, I'll look at this too thank you

That's a good idea, I could maybe get one for loads that aren't too dirty or even every second one. Thanks

I didn’t think the washing was clean after.

TrenchArse · 09/01/2022 21:35

I tried one for a while but soon realised it was exactly the same as just washing with water. I use powder now and only use a little and that seems to work much better and actually gets clothes clean and stops them smelling. My Dsis is still loving her laundry egg and is adamant it gets her clothes clean but they absolutely hum 🤢

This made me laugh. This was probably me for a while! It was actually my partner who said "you know, our clothes really smell quite bad". No more laundry egg for us.

TrenchArse · 10/01/2022 13:18

@sheroku it was probably me too. It was only one day when I’d put the heating on and some clothes were on dryers that I walked into the house and instead of smelling lovely, fresh laundry it smelled like I’d just unpacked a wet tent.

WakeUpLockie · 10/01/2022 13:21

I use powder, seems the most eco option. I had an eco egg but what now, I have this plastic egg thing hanging around my house that I never use and will never biodegrade or anything Confused.

Frazzled2207 · 10/01/2022 13:21

They’re totally fine unless your clothes are super grubby

Cuck00soup · 10/01/2022 13:30

I didn't find it got clothes clean. They started to smell like they'd been washed in a dirty machine after about the third wash.

We live in a hard water area if that's relevant, but I use limescale tablets in every wash (& no fabric conditioner).
