House is a tip, I can't do it.

I have 3 kids aged 9, 5 and 4. They're all really messy as kids normally are and after Christmas it's a tip but the worst part is, I can't even really blame them as the mess is EVERYWHERE and definitely not just their mess.

We've all been really unwell with the flu. I'm still really breathless and can't do much without gasping. I've done a pcr and lateral flows and it's definitely not covid.

I just don't know how I'm meant to sort out this pigsty with 3 kids running around. My partner has been doing most of the cleaning but the whole house needs a scrub top to bottom but I can't do it.

Why is it your job? Get the whole family to pitch in, or get external cleaners if you can afford it.

Prioritise your health, being well is more important than a clean house.

No you're right you can't do it - you're recovering from flu. You need to rest - the house will get done when it gets done. Glad your partner is clearing up - let him get on with it, and take the time to rest.

Can you make a list to make it more manageable? With daily, weekly and monthly jobs? Even if I don't plan to do anything on that day, knowing I have all the jobs written down makes me feel better as it's not all purely in my mind.
I think most people would feel overwhelmed when looking at the big picture at how much needs to be done in their house! Break it down into small tasks

First of all, you need to get well!!

Tidy the lounge so it's not annoying you. Get the kids to take their things to their bedrooms and DP to take his & yours. Get a rubbish bag and put all the actual rubbish in it & out to the main bin. Get the 9yo to take all the dishes into the kitchen. Deal with any left after that.

Then relax, if DP is feeling ok, ask him to focus on the kitchen, then the bathroom.

When are the kids back to school? How are they?

Rest, get well, that's the main thing!

Clean kitchen take it in stages but as long as your bathroom and kitchen re ok the rest can wait. Single mum to 4 so know it’s can get a bit overwhelming if you’re ill or if I’ve had a run f having the kids then 12 hour shifts my days off I’m really tired. Blasting it whilst the feel ill will just make you exhausted be kind to yourself do the essentials then have a job list fr yj and husband for when you better and rope kids in my youngest loved to Hoover, older one can make bed and tidy room give little ones an activity to do so you can get on.

It’ll get done, get well soon op

Have you seen a doctor? If your breathing is bad, I would.

Inkdrinker · 04/01/2022 16:28

Thank you everyone so much!

My partner has been a star and cleaned the house top to bottom and it makes such a difference

Thank you for all the well wishes, I can't seek to shift this flu at all. My chest is pretty bad with it. If I'm still bad tomorrow I will call the gp but I don't want to waste their time especially in the current circumstances xx
