Fabric softener not draining

HalloHello · 30/12/2021 22:51

Oh wise ones, aspiring plumbers etc

My Haier washing machine isn't completely emptying the fabric softener during the wash cycle. We have cleaned the drawer out, cleaned the inside of the disgusting drawer bit that is black with gunk (never figured out how to stop that!) Put it on a cleaning cycle and the drawer is still full. The clothes still feel like they're getting some softener and what's left does look like it's mixed with water but I wonder if anyone has any advice as I really can't afford to get a washing machine fixer person to come out at the moment 🙈

Have you made sure the wee holes over the fabric softener bit aren't blocked. I use an old toothbrush to try and get them clear.

gamerchick · 30/12/2021 22:55

Have you cleaned the roof of the drawer inside the machine?

madisonbridges · 30/12/2021 22:56

I have to blow down my holes to clear them.

For the little holes that drain over the drawer I found tooth interdental brushes are best to unblock & clean them

HalloHello · 30/12/2021 23:12

Yes husband spend some time this evening scrubbing with a bottle brush and mould and mildew remover 🙈 will try the interdental brushes! Have used daughter's pipe cleaners to clean the pipe on the drawer!

Have you popped the drawer out to get decent access? There's usually a little tongue/latch to press to pull it out, like a toddler safety latch on a kitchen cupboard.

eagerlywaitingfor · 31/12/2021 00:20

I had constant trouble with this happening with my previous washing machine. The only way I found that stopped it happening was by watering the conditioner down to make it more runny.

It's always either the little holes above or the channel under the drawer where the FC is supposed to run in.

Nix32 · 31/12/2021 00:23

@HalloHello I'm having the exact problem! These answers are really helpful.

Camelflage · 31/12/2021 01:12

Nix32 have you found the tiny holes above the FC chamber, sort of on the 'ceiling' of the drawer cavity? Think water sprays out of them to push the FC through the machine and they get full of black, mildewy gunk so they block. I use a cocktail stick with a wipe wrapped round it to sort of gouge it out but it's the most fiddly, awkward job, it's usually the culprit though.

HalloHello · 03/01/2022 16:56

Right everyone still having this issue. I have used mould and mildew spray and poked the holes with cocktail sticks but no change. There is water going in to the tray but looks like it's not draining fully? Any other ideas please?

My Hotpoint does the same thing-I've given up worrying, as the clothes always feel soft; and what's left looks like water.

I know this is old but wonder if you ever got a solution 🙈 our machine is brand new (December) and has been doing this since a few weeks in! Done all the usual cleaning of holes…
