Hi
I know I should know by now but I used to just get on when things needed doing but now I am working and studying there just is not time.

I was thinking of creating a daily list of things and then a weekly and then on a rota honing each person in the house jobs to do.

However want does everyone else do cleaning wise on a weekly and daily basis please

Have a look at TOMM

MrsGatsby99 · 12/12/2021 07:34

TOMM is really great but i have found i hsve had to modify it as it adds up to 45 minutes per day and i don't have time at tge moment for that. But definitely have a look at it especially if you can delegate some of the taaks. Have mixed in bits of Flylady too.

This is what we do (most of the time):

Daily tasks (like TOMM's level ones):
AM - empty dishwasher
Make beds
5 minute tidy
Swish and swipe ensuite bathroom basin and loo. (2 mins)
Get to work/ school!

When in from work,
Coats, shoes etc... put away. Keys on hook (learnt this the hard way).
5 minute clutter stop
Start dinner
While dinner is cooking or just before starting dinner, do 15 minutes in one room.
Swish and swipe one more bathroom.
After dinner, 10 mins tidy up kitchen.
Get things ready for next day eg lay out clothes, check school bags are ready.
Kids' bedtime routine.
Everyone has some downtime or family time together.

Load of laundry every other day. It isn't dine until it's put away!

On Saturday, i do a one hour clean, hoover, dust, mirrors, empty little bins, mop floors.
Clean shower and bath on a Wednesday and Sunday after using them (with a diahmatic). About once a month, do a deep clean.

80% done is good enough right now!

Hope that helps a bit. My post is long, just feel exhausted writing it!! Everyone is different. Tomm has an app which i found helpful.

Just bumping for you, op.

I have adapted TOMM to fit my lifestyle/my house

Here’s mine:

  • daily: load & run dishwasher & wipe worktops, squeegee shower, & clear clutter by end of night

Weekdays - probably 40 min
Monday - clean kitchen & utility (& run load of clothes)
Tuesday- off
Wednesday- bathrooms (& run load of towels) / run robo vac upstairs / hoover stairs
Thursday- off
Friday- living room & home office (& washing)
Saturday- bedrooms & change beds (& wash sheets)& hoover stairs
Sunday - off

And deep cleaning (I do sat am but anytime is ok) - prob 45 min/1hr

W1 of the month- kitchen & utility (wipe down units, appliances etc) & wash door mats
W2 - living room & office (skirting , under sofas etc) & clean door frames, light switches etc
W3 - bathrooms (deep dusting lights, skirting etc) AND kitchen again
W4 - bedrooms
W5 - porch, outside & car

Deep cleaning is damp wiping all horizontal & vertical surfaces, getting under furniture, hoovering sofa, getting skirting etc

Getting it all straight the first time takes time, after that it’s not so bad

This is a variation on TOMM, but adapted to my house & routine p. Anything I don’t do in the week gets added to sat morning

There were loads of threads on this earlier in the year, here is one www.mumsnet.com/Talk/housekeeping/a4215402-cleaning-schedules-please?msgid=111635055#111635055

I think one thing to do is 'don't make work', so I find that if I clean v thoroughly, the next week can be a bit less intense. If there is no need to do certain tasks (damp dusting, mopping), I will skip them that week
BUT having a routine helps me have a 'standard' in mind, know how frequently I plan to do certain tasks etc so relieves the mental load

What routine works depends on your personality I think!

Daily
beds made
Load of washing washed and hung up
Previous days washing folded and put away
Dishwasher emptied and refilled
Washing up done
Toys tidied
Other stuff tidied
Kitchen wiped round
One thing in kitchen cleaned
Loos and sinks given a quick wipe
Quick hoover of floors

Weekly each room gets a quick dust and hoover (different room each day of the week)

Don’t really have monthly jobs but go round rooms on rotation one a week and do a more thorough clean eg high dusting, moving furniture, clearing out cupboards, cleaning windows and frames etc. Each room done probably quarterly.

Keeps it ok but not pristine

monthly tasks can be sideboards, pictures frames and dusting where ever their is build up.
