My freezer… isn’t

My 16+ year old under counter Beko freezer is only keeping things frozen when I have the ‘fast freeze’ switch turned on. If I switch it off, they stay cold but not frozen.

The internal dial thermostat, which is outside the freezer compartments and visible when I open the door hasn’t moved. The freezer hasn’t moved in a few years.

I’ve googled and can’t find much info about why - any ideas?

Is this going to be costing more £££ to run?

Is there another thermostat somewhere? A few articles talked about a vent but I can’t find one.

Unfortunately I can’t pull the freezer out to check anything behind it as the worktop above is swollen and the freezer is stuck. Taking the freezer out, if I have to replace it, might mean having the cut the worktop in half. I hope not!

I read a thing on a freezer site that said if you can close a piece of paper (say, A4 printer paper or that sizwe) in the doorway and then pull it out without opening the door, the seal has gone on the freezer and it won't be working properly. I was checking because my freezer was icing up dreadfully and I couldn't think why. Turned out my seal had gone completely.

I bought a new Bosch freezer and it clamps round a piece of paper like my dog's jaws on a tug-toy.

Is the seal on yours OK?

Hi @FlipFlops4Me thanks 🙏

Yea, the seal is fine - bank note test done -and everything is absolutely frozen when the fast freeze setting is on.
