DH is itching to redecorate our room in the New Year and I don't know what colour to go! The main vibe we want is 'warm and toasty'. We had blood red walls at our old house and loved that but don't want to retread exactly the same path.
Here's what we have to inspire us: big South-facing room with lots of light, black metal Edwardian bed in the bay window, lots of cream sheer curtains in the windows and accross the bed plus cream roller blinds - very romantic so we'll keep all that.
Large mahogany dressing table.
Huge antique turquoise/jade chinese wool rug which would be nice to keep but am fed up with hoovering and getting cleaned and we'll have a new baby in there next summer.
DH wants to put in light wood-effect floor as it's v cheap, hygienic and we just don't hoover enough LOL.
Woodwork will be cream.
Any ideas for wall colour? Cheers

You could have a look at hgtv.com for some ideas. Some of them are a little far fetched but should give you some 'inspiration'.

If you're having wood-effect flooring, you'll definitely need a rug for the 'warm and toasty' effect. Can you use the existing one somewhere else, and buy a new one, if that makes deciding on a colour scheme easier? Creams and browns, with accents of dark red?

what about a mossy green with some red touches.Green is very calming in a bedroom. a few touches of russet red will lift it.

I like the idea of green (that last link's lovely) - maybe green with touches of gold to warm it up?

CremolaFirCone · 16/12/2007 10:49

yes i think green and gold is lovely.

Hmm, thanks but green's not very sexy though is it? I don't buy all that 'bedrooms should be calm for sleeping' stuff .
Was thinking more terracotta / spicy / reddy browns? Colonial or North African kind of vibe with the mosquito net-esque voiles.
