Getting the carpets professionally cleaned?

Tell me about it, please! Will the floors be damp for a while? Is it worth it?

What are your experiences, please!

It was worth it - I’ve done it myself (hiring the machine from ASDA) and it was backbreaking, I think it’s quite good value to pay to have it done.

It is LOUD. Carpet is damp - dried enough overnight to walk on without getting wet socks, they said don’t put the sofas back down for 12 hours (and provided plastic to put under wooden furniture).

It made the living room look really good but it didn’t really ‘fluff up’ the stair carpet where it gets all flat, which I had hoped it would.

It didn't get dog sick stains our...twice.

……how…….levitating sofas?

Trudy that’s rubbish. I’m hoping it will eradicate old cat wee stains.

And just general life grime.

I had them in and the cleaned around my sofas and furniture. I don’t mind as the carpet is like new under these anyway and it was the walkways I needed. It was like having new carpet but doesn’t last long. Pile quickly goes back down but a lot cleaner. If only lightly soiled I’d vax myself (have done before but had renovated so they needed a deeper clean)

Blush21 · 20/11/2021 19:40

Also did my hall carpet which was really bad by the door and my vax couldn’t get it up but it’s like
New

Loud, wet, might remove stains or not, 12 hours to dry.

A mixed bag, then.

Also to not it’s not that wet when it’s done. You can walk on it and it’ll give you slightly damp socks. Either book it in first thing and go out after or later on and leave it overnight and it’ll be fine. They did my lounge and hall way within 30 minutes

It's good, relatively cheap and dries fast and smells amazing!

@Calmestofallthechickens if you want to fluff it back up, talcum powder helps. Not baby powder, actual old fashioned talc like your nan used to have. Work loads in with a clothes brush, leave it half hour then vacuum it back up. Then use the clothes brush to brush the pile back into the right direction.

I have mine done 1x year or so (for moth prevention mainly), by a professional, costs around £70 for 2 rooms & hall /stairs/landing

Can walk over carpets with slippers on no issue , and carpets do look like new again

rooarsome · 22/11/2021 18:16

Hopping on this- any thoughts on sofa cleaning anyone? I have it booked in but a friend has said we can't sit on the sofa for a day

worriedatthemoment · 22/11/2021 21:29

I had my sofa cleaned , came up great can't remember how long couldn't use sofa for though but had done in morning and sure we sat on that evening , but will depend on sofa etc , but worth it

HyphenCobra · 22/11/2021 23:30

We had carpets done but didn't really rate it tbh. On our stairs it made zero difference to the pile, still all flat on 2 year old carpet 😬

WeRateSquirrels · 23/11/2021 09:20

Recently had some of ours done. Looked into hiring a machine and doing it myself but sounded too much like hard work for possibly poor results. Pretty pleased with how they came up, not absolutely every stain came out of the badly stained former playroom carpet, but it looks (and smells!) much better. Can't really comment on the pile as I just don't care about that, and carpets are at least 13 years old, so wasn't expecting miracles.

On the whole, worth it. It wasn't loud (main part of machine was outside, the inside bit just sounded like a normal hoover) and they dried very quickly. For me it was more about knowing they were clean, rather than about how they looked.
