temperamental fabric softener dispenser drawer - advice please

very often the dispenser drawer for the fabric conditioner in my washing machine ends up full of water at the end of a wash. Has anyone else had this happening? It's not that serious, but really irritating. Before each new wash I have to pull out the whole drawer and empty the water that has collected, before filling the fabric softener compartment. I've tried dismantling the whole thing and rinsing etc. in a vague attempt to unblock any blockage but same thing still happens. What is it??

I have this problem too, but no explanation or solution I'm afraid.

you need to unblock it properly
have you taken the whole drawer out?

littleboo · 14/12/2007 14:50

read recently that if you take it out completely , you can clean it really well in the dishwasher.

Have taken out whole drawer before and washed thoroughly, but will try putting in dishwasher - thanks littleboo

Can now report back that the dispenser drawer is now incredibly clean, having been through the dishwasher. Then I put on a wash earlier, in anticipation!! Unfortunately, a small pool of water remained at the bottom of the conditioner dispenser compartment at the end of the wash. It probably won't be long before it's back up to the previous level. grrrrrrrrrrrr

Could it be anything to do with water pressure? The conditioner is meant to be sucked up through a kind of tube thing in the drawer,IYKWIM

I found if ANY washing powder gets in that bit of the drawer, mine clogs with water. Ever few weeks this happens so I jus give it a good clean. I live in a soft water area, and I heard that the harder the water can make a difference.Dont know if thats true?

Same here...bloody annoying

I'm soft water though...soft as it gets!!

I used to get this all the time...until I stopped using conditioner. It's something in the conditioner itself I suspect, I used to clean it out all the time and it would clog up in the next wash all the same. I now use vinegar with lavender oil and have not had a blocked drawer since.

I get this too. It drives me potty and if I use some concentrated fabric softeners the stuff doesn't even get rinsed through but just fills up in the drawer.

I do find that I have to clean the holes in the washer above the drawer, where the water comes in. They block up with black mould (barf) and I have to poke them clean with a cocktail stick. That helps a little bit but doesn't stop it completely.

Ours does this too. We have to take the whole drawer out and dismantle it - there is usually a layer of congealed washing powder hidden under the plasticky top bit (yes that is its technical name).

I secretly blame DH for being a bit to liberal with the washing powder.. on the rare occasion he puts some washing on
