Thermostat/Boiler confusion

Hi hoping someone more knowledgeable than me can help.

Dropped a mirror down the stairs this morning, it hit the thermostat but didn't knock it off the wall. The thermostat has now gone blank and the heat came on full blast (was off before)

Why would this happen and who do I need to phone?

Thanks so much for any advice.

Yes battery run, could I possibly have knocked them? But don't understand why it would then turn the heating on? Not sure of make sorry Sad

The thermostat is what tells the boiler when to switch off (ie when the temperature is at the correct level). If the thermostat isn't working, then the boiler will come on / stay on.

If it's battery run, it's likely that you've just knocked the batteries somehow.

Otherwise, it might be broken and need replacing. In the meantime, you should be able to turn your boiler off manually on the boiler itself and then turn it back on when it gets a bit nippy.
