Tumble dryer under the stairs?

Our vented dryer has just stopped working so I'm looking at options. We have both washer and dryer in a tall cupboard under our stairs and I'd prefer not to replace with vented as a kitchen extension means the vent hose has a long journey out under our floor without access. I've been looking and there's a suggestion that condenser dryers aren't suitable for use in enclosed cupboards. Our friends machine kicks out a huge amount of heat so I can understand why. I'd wondered if the same applies to heat pump dryers which seem more efficient? There is about 2 feet of space above the dryer but I won't want to leave the door open when it's running as it will obstruct an entrance. Thanks in advance

I have a heat pump dryer under the stairs, I don't notice that it throws out lots of heat, but it takes hours to dry stuff and I'm not convinced it's that much cheaper to run

Thanks for that. I can cope with the slowness as long as it doesn't make the cupboard damp

Hopeful bump. Would be great to hear about more experiences

How much additional space is in your cupboard?

We have a condenser dryer, and due to the heat can also dry other clothes in the same cupboard with a dehumidifier on.

Our cupboard has louvre doors. Is that an option?

I think most of the fire risk is from fluff, rather than the operation of the machine.

We have ours in a cupboard under the stairs, stacked on top of the washing machine. When it was built, the builders also installed an extractor fan.

I have a condenser drier in a cupboard and it's absolutely fine. It's a really small cupboard too - only a couple of cm clearance. It's been there for going on 10 years now!

I’ve just bought a Candy condenser dryer for under my stairs, heat does come from it but not major however my under the stairs has no door and I keep it well ventilated with windows open.

I've also got a heat pump dryer under the stairs, no damp issues. The water chamber is quite big and awkward to empty. I have to tiptoe backwards out of the cupboard and turn in slow motion to empty it in the tiny cloakroom sink.

The dryer doesn't get hot at all, I'm really happy with it as a solution as before that I had an integrated washer/dryer and the load capacity was rubbish.

I've got wired in fire alarms but I did put another one up in the cupboard.

I've got this dryer.
