Perfume strong on eBay jumper

I should have sent it back as it was advertised as unworn, NWOT. It stank of perfume and to add insult to injury, had a hair on it. Although I complained I washed it on wool wash cycle in machine. Unfortunately the smell didn’t come out but never got round to sending it back.
Any tips/ tricks for getting smell out?

Bicarbonate and seal in a bag for a few days?

Soak for a few hours in cold water and handwash solution.

Will start with white vinegar idea and if that doesn’t work move to next tip. Thanks

Hope you find something that works OP. I’ve had this a few times and its horrid. Put me right off buying from eBay. If it’s not perfume, it’s sort of mouldy fabric softener stink 🤢

Hang outside to air for the day?

TurnUpTurnip · 01/11/2021 17:08

Probably doused it with perfume thinking it would hide the fact it was worn / possibly smelly

Did you get chance to try any of these @FloatingLeaf? I’m interested to know if any worked Smile

I got a lovely jumper of eBay, one of my favourite brands. It had all tags on, and looked unsullied, so don’t believe it to have been worn, but phooooweeee did it stink of perfume! 3 x wool washes and hanging it outside when weather permitted has (almost) dealt with it.
I assume it had picked up the stink from storage with even more highly perfumed clothes

LaBellina · 03/11/2021 13:03

Hang it outside for a few days
Yes to white vinegar and perhaps you can try washing it in water with some baking soda?

Not perfume but my cat peed on my favorite cardigan and I got the stench out after washing it 4 or 5 times with baking soda poeder added along with normal washing detergent. Also you can try oxygen bleach that is safe to use on colors as well as it also works to get out strong odors from clothes.
Good luck.

Maybe try Stergene wooly handwash. It removes all the very special pongs that accumulate in DH's jumpers. It's the only thing that's worked on his stuff. Also second a nice line dry - love the smell of outside on a jumper! Good luck!
