Cleaning matte bathroom tiles

We have inherited a lovely bathroom in our new house BUT the tiles are matte and are in desperate need of a proper clean.
Is there a special trick? I seem to just smear the dust around on them when I wipe with a microfibre cloth.
We live in a hard water area and so I also need to be careful of limescale and water marks.

Scrub with a pan scrubber and washing up liquid.

You probably won't need to do this very often, if at all, once they've had a really good clean.

Hot water, a dish scrubbing brush or other brush and washing up liquid (which is a Brilliant de greaser). Then use an old towel or paper towels to blot the liquid up. When it's done, hoover to removed any remaining hairs and bits.
