New rug smell? Not the chemical type

I’ve just bought and put down a new wool rug and it has a smell - I’m looking for reassurance that it will go away.

It’s really hard to explain, but I haven’t had carpets for ages and the only soft furnishings I have are sofas and curtains. We needed something to stop the harshness. It’s not a new carpet smell, more an old 'heavily soft furnished home smell. Old house smell, even'. I can’t describe it. I was worried that it had got wet in the warehouse (or worse), but it looks pristine and has no sign of water damage (plus it was full of those moisture bag things).

I don’t want my house to smell of anything, let alone soft furnishings!

Any hope that the smell will go (I don’t want to get nose blind to it either!!). It wasn’t overly cheap, so I’m a little worried!

Try sprinkling bi carb over and leave on overnight and Hoover the next day. It should take out any odours.

Thank you. I’m debating just taking it back.I came home and the smell is just so strong. If this is just because it’s wool, I don’t think I want it.

I had a new wool rug a couple of months ago and it had a really heavy and quite pervasive scent. However, I was warned about it in advance and told it would dissipate. Either they were right or I simply don't notice it any longer.
