Washing super-soft fleece

How do you wash the kind of super-soft fleece (that dressing gowns and blankets are made from) without ruining it? Is it even possible?

Handwash? Cold machine cycle?

From what I’ve read, no fabric softener… but any other thoughts?

I would try a wool or delicate cycle with wool laundry liquid.

I wash mine on a synthetic cycle, which has a slower spin, also wash sweatshirts on this too and never had a problem

Thank you both! So gentle detergent, slow spin… and they come out soft still? How about handwash?

It's artificial so very robust. Comes out much softer than cotton towelling. Put it through a 40 or 60 wash - it will be fine.

@25yearsnhsworker

I would try a wool or delicate cycle with wool laundry liquid.
This & fabric conditioner (which I don't normally use).

I personally would not handwash because they will have a lot more water in them than most items/be heavy when wet, although of course if they are really precious to you then its worth it - I do handwash some items like wool blankets etc but its a hassle & this is the wrong time of year to get things like that dried easily

PS - if you have read no softener, do that the first time you wash.

You can always use it the next time which is easier vs getting it out of an item

The thing with hand washing you then end up wringing it out which is a bit harsh. Unless you mean hand-wash cycle in a machine.

I think you will be surprised that it will stay just fine. My kids have blankets similar and they have stayed soft.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 19/10/2021 21:02

Definitely no need to handwash as the fabric holds water
I've had my dressing gown for approx 4 years and it's still fine so I'm sure yours will be too

Gigglechristmas · 20/10/2021 12:46

Can you tell I love my new dressing gown? It can’t go unwashed much longer Blush

I somewhat ruined a fleece blanket so don’t want to repeat the mistake!

I've got a soft fleece dressing gown which seems fine after quite a lot of washes on the wool cycle with non bio detergent, and then air dried of course not tumbled.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 20/10/2021 14:10

I'm sure you'll have it for years to come! The fabric is hard wearing and durable, so don't worry.
I wash my throws this way too and they're all still soft
Hang and Air dry and it dries quickly

Thanks all. I followed all the tips and it worked!
