Cleaning houseplants

What is the best way to clean dusty houseplants? I give some of the leafy ones a cold shower every now and then, but how do you clean a prickly cactus which wouldn't appreciate being soaked?

Put them by the back door, put your hairdryer on cool and blast the dust outside

hairdryer on cold as above

less spiky plants - put an old sock on hand, dampen & wipe down the plants

Cacti don't mind being given a shower to get the dust off. You wouldn't want to soak them too often though.

I have been known to stand my cacti and succulents outside on the patio in the rain sometimes, to have a good wash. Needs to be a warm day - they seem to quite like it.

Thanks all, that's really helpful Smile

You can gently dust them with a paint brush, not a good time of year to be washing them (OK in the warmer months, though ).

Put them in the shower and hose them down. They get a water at the same time.

If it’s not cold put them outside in the rain.

You can spray a cactus occasionally, just don't soak it.

If it’s not spiky, they can just be wiped with a damp cloth. Good tips about succulents and cacti here.
