How often do you replace socks and undies?

I never know when to replace DH's stuff and worry that I'm being a bit too frugal

I would replace if they had holes, or the elastic has gone but what if they just look a little faded or bobbly or are well over a year old? He doesn't really care but he does need to look smart for work (not that he ever needs to show his undies to clients but you never know )

Aye, when it has holes that can't be mended.

I have knickers that are at least 5 years old and socks even older. They would go in the bin if they got holes or became see through. Otherwise why would I get rid?

Holes and stains 🤷‍♀️. I do buy new bras every January though, which feels like a nice treat (how sad is that!).

So mainly if they get significant holes or the elastic goes. Also if they no longer fit.

Why would you replace them if they were still functional?

When they wear out. Socks I keep until the sole of the foot is a massive hole. Pants until the elastic goes and they no longer properly function.

Holes, elastic gone or grown out of for the children. Socks when I only seem to have odd ones.

DH has some boxers that predate our relationship so 9+ years.
I replace my stuff when it’s worn out. I don’t replace anything of DH’s, he does that himself!

Well over a year! I'm absolutely certain I have stuff thats 15 years old, as does DH. Some stuff gets holes and falls apart soon, some stays in good condition for years. Throwing stuff out as if clothes had a best before date like food is bizarre and wasteful to me - if they're still functional, I'll wear them. I have started a policy of putting socks with holes straight in the bin so they're immediately out of circulation, because realistically we do not darn socks anymore, but when they get holes seems to bear little relationship to their age.

And really there’s no need to replace undies unless it’s no longer functional/you don’t wear them. I think even my very newest pants are at least 2 years old! Many must be on their second decade!

DH does it himself, I replace my socks when they wear through.

When they get holes in, fall apart or no longer fit my post-lockdown sized arse…

Is he incapable of deciding for himself?

When holey/worn or look disgrace - most things have 2-3 years in them I'd say (but I have quite a big rotation for socks & undies so that helps)

As a grown man I’d expect him to replace his own. My own socks I usually replace once a year

When they have more holes than material. Multiple years - and as grown men they can decide themselves

(PS I have underwear with American labels and I haven't lived there for 15 years)

Out of interest why do you replace them once a year? Do you just throw out functional socks and buy new ones?!
