Airing cupboard smells musty

Had the hot water tank removed and cupboard cleaned, painted and a false floor placed over the pipes. There are still small gaps around the pipes and the cupboard smells musty (we had the bathroom re done when we bought the house and the shower had leaked and mould was in the wall/insulation but that was all removed and replaced). Any suggestions for making it smell better? Thanks

Can you lift the false floor temporarily (will it unscrew?). I’d want to check there are no leaks there and let it air or dry as a first step…

No there's no leaks, this is quite a recent renovation and the cupboard has always smelt like that - I thought it would get better with time but 3-4 months on it's still not great

Hang some dryer sheets in there, that's what I do with mine if you're sure theres no leak etc

This is strange as replacing the materials & repainting should have taken care of that then

Dryer sheets sounds good or use neutrodol etc

Can you get the air moving in that room -eg open cupboard doors, windows & use fans etc for a few days to see if that makes a difference? Otherwise it’s only masking the issue

What is the cupboard to be used for ? Eg towel storage?

Lidless lunchbox filled with washing powder, in the back corner. Removes air moisture and smells good.
