What floor cleaner to use on Karndean?

The Karndean branded cleaning products seem very expensive, but equally we're keen to look after our new Karndean! Any recommendations for what to mop it with? Thanks 😊

I just use any old floor cleaner, Flash, Aldi, whatever. 3 years in and it's looking grand.

morningporridge · 06/10/2021 11:35

Thanks, that's reassuring! On the Karndean website it says to use ph neutral fragrance free floor cleaner so I was worried all the 'normal' ones might be a bit harsh ....

We just use Flash or whatever floor cleaner. Ours is 13 years old now and still looking good

I've just read on a forum that Method Squirt and Mop Almond Floor Cleaner (£4 at Tesco) is safe to use on Karndean flooring. You can't use any products containing citrus x

Blahdyblahbla · 06/10/2021 11:46

@morningporridge of course they do, it's an ongoing source of income for them Hmm. Just don't use a steam mop, I understand that does bugger up the flooring.

morningporridge · 06/10/2021 11:56

@Blahdyblahbla yes, I assumed that was the case! It was just going to be an expensive mistake if I was wrong 😂

Any suggestions for specific floor cleaners that are fine for Karndean would be amazing! Bit worried of the citrus ones as they are saying ph neutral

I steam clean my Karndean flooring but we had it fitted with special extra strong glue. It doesn’t seem to have suffered after 2 years ……I’d be interested in other peoples experience

I'm interested too!

We haven't decided yet what we're putting diwn on the floor in the kitchen, but if it can't be steam mopped it's not going in!!

AlexanderArnold · 02/11/2021 10:26

I steam clean my karndean. No problems with it!

ponkydonkey · 02/11/2021 10:31

I just use flash or own brand floor cleaner
It's been down for 5 years and despite dogs and children it still looks good

Sugarandtime · 06/11/2021 21:31

My fitter said to just use a squirt of washing up in warm/hot water

VeronicaBeccabunga · 06/11/2021 21:52

I use an Eco Cloth mop pad-on-a-stick thing [they're microfibre] and a spray bottle with dilute Ecover all-purpose cleaner.
Mop thing goes through a 60 degree wash, no probs
A visitor sometimes brings a dog and after their visits I use that Dettol surface spray with the mop instead.
Karndean looking good as new years down the line.

Veronica, where are you currently buying your Ecover multiple cleaner? I can't find it anywhere!
Sugarandtime · 11/11/2021 13:47

@JamMakingWannaBe

Ocado

Ocado[/quote]
Sainsbury's, but they have changed the design of the bottle so it's almost unrecognisable, the CFs Grin

JamMakingWannaBe · 18/11/2021 20:29

Thanks both. Definitely not in my big Sainsbury's. There's a small Waitrose on the other side of town. I'll try there as Ocado don't deliver in my area.

I bought some metod instead and can confirm that worked too.
