Best way to light a dining table?

We've just reshuffled the furniture in our single big reception room and the dining table has ended up in the bay window, which is great for floor space but means it's really poorly lit.

There's no possibility of putting a ceiling light above it, which would be the obvious solution, so is it a really stupid idea to have a floorstanding reading light of this ilk on the window side of the table (maybe even on the windowsill) to light the table?

i would go for a pair of candlestick lamps on the windowsill to light it, as I think it's more classical...

like these...

If it had to be a florr lamp then I'd go for the Arco type ones.

cheapo Arco knock-off - I like

celing lamp not possible because it's a single storey bay - no ceiling void to run cable in
wall lights similarly not possible as it's got windows on three sides and empty space on the fourth
[rummages for pic of similar bay]
not quite like this but you get the idea

Some good floor lights here - arco-type and others - I like the silk cord drum floor light.
