Smelly towels

Why do my towels smell funny even after I wash them?! I've tried using bicard, white vinegar, literally everything and I can't shift the smell. They just smell weird and it's so annoying! Washing machine is clean and clothes always smell fine 🤷🏻‍♀️

How do you dry them?

It could be a build up of washing products. I'd do a hot wash with no product at all to try and strip them.
Don't let them take too long to dry, that's when they start smelling a bit funky. I whack them in the tumble dryer or over an surer beside a radiator

Dried outside makes a world of difference. Especially sunny and windy weather, even if not warm.

I always put them in the tumble dryer and they smell worse. It's not like a damp smell, I can't describe it. Smells a bit like hamster 🤣

Hot wash and line dry.

FindingMeno · 03/10/2021 21:05

Hot wash with some napisan.

Dinnertime22 · 03/10/2021 21:17

I had this with some Amazon basic towels. Nothing seemed to work, so we have replaced them unfortunately. Never had the issue previously and the new ones are fine.

I know what you mean about the hamster smell, it's a tumble drier thing. More apparent on the towels and they need tumble dried to death to be dry where as normal clothes need a lot less time. tumble first sheets help a little

CMOTDibbler · 03/10/2021 21:24

Daz powder or Aldi powder (always biological), no fabric conditioner, slug of Napisan, hot wash. Often I think you get this if theres a build up on the towels of product

CrotchetyQuaver · 03/10/2021 21:32

Towels do best on a 60 degree hot wash. Then tumble dry. I think the smell may come from not a hot enough wash cycle?

CorpusCallosum · 03/10/2021 22:07

Second a super hot wash to strip them 👍

My towels always go on a 60 wash so it's definitely not that. I will try Napisan and hopefully that works. Thank you all

Hot hot hot wash

No powder, no fabsoft

And a cup of washing soda crystals

I bet it will foam up as the resident soap deposits are washed out.
