How long does it take for the birds to start eating those bin maggots?

Because I keep reading about how the birds love to eat maggots and I now have my (emptied, maggot-ridden) green bin open on my driveway
to test this out, but it's stinking! I can't leave it like that. There's about 20 sparrows who come to feeders in my garden and they're all there, chirping away, studiously avoiding the bin...

Why not just clean it out, get some bleach a long handled brush and the hosepipe going 🤔

Every time I see a thread about this someone will pop up and say "just leave the bin open, it's a great snack for the birds! So I thought I'd give it a try, but the birds round my way have taken one look at it and thought no thank you,l and gone back to my bird feeders. And I can't blame them, it's minging. I've washed it out now with boiling water, sincerely hoping that's the last batch of them this year.

I would say probably a few days. Birds are wary. Maybe they'd be more interested if they were scattered on the grass like other insects/bugs.
