Just wondered as mine are looking really horrible and yellow but I feel guilty about throwing them out. I know some people successfully wash pillows but I have not had much luck doing that.

When they stop being comfy. I use a pillow protector though or they do get manky.

I'm forever on the hunt for the perfect one, so probably every 3 months ! Hmm

I have never successfully washed a pillow.
They always come out lumpy.

Yes, exactly! They are also hard to dry.

Does having pillow protectors make a difference?

Pillows usually have a 'use by' date on the tag telling you when to bin

Yes, pillow protectors do prolong their life. If there are no allergy issues I would buy feather pillows. You can wash them at 60 and tumble dry, no problem.
