Vacuum cleaner recommendations

Afternoon! We have a cordless Dyson which was always fine in our little terrace house, but we have moved to a bigger house and having building work done. The builders are hoovering with a Jack (Henry’s big brother!) so we’re ok for the actual build work but long term we need a proper hoover…so I’m after a recommendation please. Thinking of keeping the Dyson for a quick run around but need a proper one too.

This thread is a bit old now, so if you have landed here looking for recommendations, we recently updated our best vacuum cleaner buyer's guide, featuring the best cordless, cylinder and upright vacuums, tried and tested by Mumsnet.

We hope you find this useful.

Miele c3

Henry Hoover's are fab
Miele are excellent
Shark are fantastic

I use them all and rate them all 10 out of 10.

Miele or sebo

NoTeaForMe · 02/09/2021 18:57

Thank you. What’s better, an upright or a pull along Henry style one?

If mostly carpet I'd go for an upright sebo. If mixed floor types I'd go for the Miele cat and dog cylinder.

All about the Miele.

I've got a gtech and I love it. Not sure why they never get mentioned on here.
Can't be doing with hoovers that have big long hoses and a bit you have to drag around!

CallmeHendricks · 02/09/2021 22:15

Sebo (upright).

RavingAnnie · 03/09/2021 16:52

I have a sebo and hate it so much I won't use it. Huge, heavy, unwieldy thing.

We have a mummy shark downstairs and a baby shark upstairs (daughter has a daddy shark). The 'smallest' (I think it starts with a 6) is fine and much easier to manoeuvre. I like them. Other people don't. They are tons better than the Dyson we had before. We also had a Miele that I really liked, but the Shark picked up what it left.

It's far from perfect, but there's a lot to like. I prefer uprights, and though everyone moans about the small bin, I like that it has to be emptied rather than sitting there half full of crap. I like no bags, and reasonably easy to clean. I love the lift off function so you can vacuum under beds, but don't like that the canister falls over easily.

We've had one of them three years, and the other a year, and so far, happy with. them.

@NoTeaForMe sorry forgot that I have a gtech also and that's good.

I like both henry pull along and an upright it depends on what I am using it for.

Amazon have a good sale on Hoover's just now.
