Water leaking out of fridge - any ideas how to sort it out?

For the last week or so water has been pooling at the bottom of the (quite old) fridge and leaking out the door. It's not lots but I've no idea why it's doing this. Any thoughts? DS had turned the temp up but it's still been doing it since I sorted that.
Thanks

In my old fridge there was a hole at the back at the bottom, which sometimes got gunky and blocked up. Gave it a good clean (poked down with cloth-covered chopstick) and all was ok until I let it get all horrible again.

Disclaimer - Hab takes no responsibility for anyone breaking their fridge by use of anything chopstick-related

take out the salad drawer and have a look right at the back - there could be a kind of drainage hole which gets blocked up with gunk and mould and stuff then water leaks out. A cotton bud is quite good for poking gunk with.

Ours has this sometimes, I think they go through a kind of defrosting phase - not as extreme as a freezer but some water still comes off the back wall. On mine there is a little gutter just above the salad drawer and a little tunnel/hole for the water which is supposed to go out the back of the fridge, hit the hot element and evaporate.

However if a tiny bit of food falls in the gutter it can get scunged up, then the water doesn't flow out the back, it overflows and drips out the front of the fridge and pools.

Have a look, see if you have a similar little hole and poke something like a chopstick or a pencil through it to clear it (gently though!).

Agree with what others have said.
I hate doing that job though! Slimy gunky stuff makes me urge.

ha! cross posted with Hab - how funny, I thought I'd invented the chopstick surgery, clearly there are more of us than I thought poking around with our chopsticks...

Thanks for the quick replies! You've all just proved that I don't just waste my time on mumsnet to my sceptical DH
I've just used a straw to poke down the hole. There was a wee bit of gunk but not that much. I'll check tomorrow morning to see if it's worked.
Thanks again.
