Stand Mixer

I can't afford a kitchen aid, but I need a stand mixer for baking because I've fractured my scaphoid and it's going to take an age to fix. Have about £200 to spend on it, and want a splash guard.

What do you recommend?

I would get a second hand Kenwood off FB marketplace, unless you specifically want a brand new one?

Mine was £50 and is a warhorse

alwayswrighty · 18/08/2021 15:01

@honeylou42 that's a bit 'spotty' for me, but thank you.

@NatMoz that's a good shout, I always forget about that option.

I love my Kitchenaid. I got it reduced because it had been the display model in the shop. It wasn’t damaged, not even scratched. It had obviously been touched by many people but nothing that a good wipe wouldn’t sort.

ThorIsAGod · 19/08/2021 06:32

I've a kenwood which I've had for 15 years and it's still going strong

ThorIsAGod · 19/08/2021 06:35

Just looking online I think mine was nearer £350 price but they have cheaper versions

purplesequins · 19/08/2021 06:38

bosch mum

Roselilly36 · 19/08/2021 07:00

We brought a Kenwood chef, 7 years ago, we have the classic chef model, so impressed with it, really solid, well engineered machine. Ours is mainly used for dough & cakes. Would recommend.

bruffin · 19/08/2021 07:08

Another for Bosch mum, mines was really good value for money
Kitchen aid are style over substance. Kenwoods are much better for the same money

Bluebells1 · 19/08/2021 07:16

Kenwood KMix was around £240 at Costco.

Fuckitsstillraining · 19/08/2021 07:18

Look for a used kenwood, I have two, one 40 years old, one 50+, both work great and all attachments fit. I got them serviced recently and the store offered to buy them, after I refused he told me they are the best longterm brand.

dressupinyou · 19/08/2021 07:27

If you can stretch the budget a bit, go for a Kenwood with a glass bowl.
I absolutely love mine and have had it around 15-16 years but do wish I had the glass instead of metal bowl.

purplesequins · 19/08/2021 08:28

I have a bosch mum.
it comes with good attachments and is easy to use.
very compact as well.

kitchen aids look nice but not as easy to work with if you have weak wrists.

alwayswrighty · 19/08/2021 13:54

Thank you all. Will have a good hunt.

I got a Kenwood a year ago. I inherited money and went for the biggest version I could but there is one in your price range and second hand will still be in use for years to come so I recommend this. They're not as pretty as a kitchen aid but I much preferred this when using it, it's a bit more robust.

CausingChaos2 · 19/08/2021 15:24

I have a kenwood which is a workhorse. Not as pretty as a kitchen aid but great machine. Mine is a major which has the larger bowl but actually wish I had the standard model.

NotMeNoNo · 19/08/2021 15:30

I think I’d look for a used Kenwood Chef KM series and get a splash guard if it didn’t come with one.

Redsquirrel5 · 19/08/2021 16:58

Kenwood I bought mine from Lakeland. Kenwood themselves have sales regularly. I have the metal bowl I like it. It has a liquidiser and a processor and I think I paid about £250 a few years ago and yes it does have a splash guard.

alwayswrighty · 19/08/2021 19:21

Brilliant thanks all.

I got one from next - it's not a kenwood or kitchenaid by any stretch but it was a lot more budget friendly and does the job for the occasional baking that I do.

loubielou31 · 19/08/2021 19:33

I love my Kenwood. Mine is 15 years old but I bought one for my brother a few years ago from Costco for a really good price. Have a look around. Also there are hundreds of attachments you can get at a later time if you want them, we have a juicer, blender ice cream maker bowl.
