Alternative to Viakal

We live in a hard water area and get lots of tough limescale building up very regularly. Viakal has ruined some taps before, so wondering what alternatives I should try? Vinegar hasn't been strong enough.

Any other tricks I could try?

Citric acid.

Cheap, plastic free if you buy it in cardboard box. Mix with water - instructions on the side as to how strong it should be for different jobs

Ecover limescale remover is superb. I was surprised to find it's actually better than Viakal - & without the toxic ingredients that no one sensible would choose to inhale. My local Tesco Metro used to sell it but no longer does (Tesco superstores might). Waitrose is the only place I can find it locally now - ymmv.
