Washing machine tray

Can anyone give me tips how to clean and prevent all that black mildew gunk building up in my washing machine tray?

I leave it open after every wash.

Once every so often I pull it out and give it a good scrub and stick my hand in the hole that’s lefts and try to clean it as much as I can. Is this it or am I missing something?

I spray flash with bleach spray in mine which gets in the nooks and crannies, leave for a while then rinse well, don't wash any clothes straight after in case any bleach residue, I generally do it if I am not going to do a wash for a day or two and leave it open to air without the tray in it

Take the dispenser drawer out and put it through the dishwasher.

Do you use powder or liquid?
I find liquid is worse for this, also washing at low temperatures encourages mould

Fabric softener definitely encourages mould in the tray and above it, that is where mine is, mainly where that goes.

I take the whole drawer out and then also use a washing up brush to get further down the back of the drawer. And periodically do a wash with washing machine cleaner and a really hot wash.

I use powder and fabric conditioner and try to wash on 30 most of the time. I guess it’s just one of those annoying things.
Great tips though. I’ll try to put it through the dishwasher too.

I recently realised that most fabric conditioners are made with animal fat and that's probably what's building up in the drawer/space behind it Confused I've switched to Smol fabric conditioner and now no build up! Plus it smells amazing Grin
