Need a new one as ours is making a terrible noise.
It needs to -
Be reasonably quiet
Have variable settings for temperature and spin cycle
Be freestanding & fit into a space 60cm wide
Cope with loads of differing weight (towels/duvets)

It doesn't need to -
Have a dryer function
Have a time delay setting
Play a tune

I have a HiSense from AO. It is so quiet I sometimes have to go back to check I pressed the start button

My mum and I both have bosch. You can check the actual decibel levels with each machine online. I'm not sure ours is the quietest, but its certainly quieter and much faster than our previous model. I've had mine 6yrs and no issues thus far. Bosch come in rated numbers, so their 6 series had more functions than say a 3 or 4 series one. IMO, some of those 'extra' functions aren't needed. Mine is (I think) a series 4, but I still have over 12 functions and day to day only use 2.

It also has the function where you can still open the door if you forget a sock etc. I think its Samsung that have a smaller door, above the main door for this purpose, but someone on MN recently was complaining about the small size of said door and the limited functions on their one.

Miele. All the way.

Agree with @Theoldwoman
Miele every time.

We have a John Lewis one, (JLWM1428) which was a Which Best Buy, it has variable temperatures and spin speeds, you can also shorten the wash if you want and open the door when it has started to add things. It is an 8kg machine, I'm very pleased with it, it also has a three year guarantee.

Recently got a Bosch Serie 6 WAU28T64GB from John Lewis
All fine but doesn't have an extra rinse or an extra wash option
So much quieter than our previous machine

Got the Samsung addwash about 2 months ago, it fits 10.5kg in. Highly recommended! My last Samsung washer gave up after 7 years of daily use so hope this one lasts as long.

Bought a Miele few months ago. It's fantastic. Quiet, washes well & you can use normal washing powder as well as their cap dosing system. Paid approx £520. So far best machine I've ever bought.

Had a 10kg Hisense for 18 months prior. It was awful. Leaked almost constantly, pump & motor went after 13 months. Noisy & used to "walk" out of it's slot under the work top. Never again.

I've got an AEG. Spins at 1600 so clothes are nearly dry. My model takes 8kg & it's quiet. Came with a 5 year guarantee. I'm pleased with it
