Getting stains out of clothes

Hi, does anyone have any tips for getting stains out of babies white or light coloured clothes?

Anything that he seems to eat, mostly fruits and veg with colour stain the clothes and they're coming out the wash with the stains still on.

With clothes that are completely white such as his vests I'll occasionally bleach them/soak in Milton before washing which does the job. But some things that are say white and black on the same item I'm worried it'll bleach the coloured part too.

I always put 'the pink stuff' whitener in with my white washing but it doesn't seem to shift food stains off his clothes. So any tips other than "don't buy white clothes" would be appreciated 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Sunshine. Lay them out somewhere the sun can shine on them, direct is better, but it still works through a window, seems to take longer though.

Another recommendation for sunshine, it works a treat.

Soak
Use biological powder
Dry in the sun

Hang on the line when sunny!

Ace laundry bleach. It’s amazing and has Woolmark recommended. Put it neat in the stain and Chuck in wash.

Leave them on the line in the sun for a couple of days.

Yes. Direct daylight is the big guns of stain removal. Sunshine isn’t actually necessary (luckily) just quicker. Even shifts banana stains.

Other than that:
oxi-spray (vanish or whatever brand) spayed on the mark before it goes in the washing basket. Failing that, oxi-spray just before wading.
A drop of washing up liquid applied to fatty stains shifts them.

OwlBasket · 03/08/2021 15:38

So. In winter you can remove stains with daylight by putting the item on a south or west facing windowsill for a good few days.

Agree absolutely with the tip to put in direct sunlight. I also spray white items with white vinegar before placing in light.

Laundry bleech.
Wash out some stains like banana immediately, otherwise forget it.
Sometimes a stain doesn’t disappear after washing the item once, it may take a few times and fades/ disappears eventually so don’t chuck out clothing yet that still has the stain after washing it for the first time after food accident.

Wash in as hot water as possible with a really good powder (Omo/Persil?) a bit of Napisan and dry in the sun!
