Old house never feels clean.

I'm nearly 33 weeks pregnant and I'm constantly trying to make my house feel clean and getting nowhere. Even redecorated but it still feels unclean and dusty. "bits" just appear everywhere. Anyone else feel like this in an old house?

I know what you mean. I know my house is spotless but there is old stone, old walls etc and it has a chalky feel, I think that makes me think it's not clean. I did have more dust in a 1930s semi I lived in compared to my 1780s house. I had an extension built on the semi and I swear in the 8 years after it was built and before I left, the dust never settled.

My house isn't old but it needs a bit of updating...it's completely livable though. Yeah never feels clean no matter how much I do.

Don't worry! Focus on surfaces you eat off and where you wash. People survive well enough in old houses, tents, caves, mud huts....the list goes on. Food hygiene and sanitary hygiene are focuses. Other than that when your baby gets to crawling stage just make sure to remove choking hazards and household chemicals and heat sources from their path!Grin

Yes, our house had previously had a fire. Dark dust and a faint smoke smell would appear periodically, many years later.

I felt the same in my old cottage, it never felt clean no matter how long I spent scrubbing.

Ditto! 28 wk pregnant lady here and it only feels clean when I'm at home alone and have done a once round. As soon as hubby and dogs arrive back again I'm irked by the dirt the spread!

Do you think it might be because you’re pregnant? I remember feeling like this and got quite obsessive about cleaning floors. Doesn’t help when you live in an old house without laminate floors and vinyl and all those things that are wipe clean.
20 years later, I still think my house (Victorian) is grubby even though I clean and redecorate regularly.

Are there any things you can improve to give it a lift? Eg In our old kitchen we were recommended to sand the wooden surface and oil it again which helped much more than any amount of cleaning.similar with re-grouting the bath
