Freezer - May or not be broken - Questions!

Urgh!

I went to put some shopping in the freezer today and it was clearly defrosting.

I can't figure out it one of my kids left it slightly open or if it's actually bust.

Most things still feel solid, but I've chucked the cornetto type ice creams and a few things similar as while mostly frozen, they were clearly a bit squidgy.

Do you think the rest of it will be OK? (If it's not actually broken). It seems really quiet which makes me worry it's broke broke, but I've never paid attention to how loud it is! It's only about 6 months old. Bought from AO, if it is broke broke I can get it replaced, right?!

It was fine last night so can only have been 15 or so hours max?!

Urgh!

It's making noise!! Yey!! Hopefully one of the kids just left it open for the night after getting an ice pole.

Providing it freezes up ok, my main question is now down to two items. If you've been in liddl recently you'll know what I'm talking about, 2x rice with gyro meat and one gyro meat. They weren't fully defrosted but had def started. Should I just chuck?

When that happened to me I chucked anything meat and dairy

I err on the safe side but I’d eat them quickly rather than chuck.

Useful too: get a plastic shot glass or similar and fill with water and freeze. Then put a drop of water and a penny on it and leave it in the freezer. The drop of water is to make the penny stick firmly. Put it somewhere it won’t get knocked over easily.

If you have a power cut you don’t want to open the door, but after the power comes back and it has been running for a while you can look at it and judge by the level the penny is at how badly it’s defrosted.

I had a power cut while on holiday once and wouldn’t have known how bad it was without the penny trick.

Thank you!

I'm still conflicted on it - it's working - ish - I think... the full bag of ice I put in there last night is still frozen but I'm not convinced anything else is more frozen than when I found it iykwim 😔 It's usually a decent freezer and it seems more like "good enough" now... I think I'll chuck the rice / meat / fish for sure. The veggies and sweet stuff I might use up sooner rather than later.

I've not used anything from it yet - I'll try the penny trick to see if it freezes something from scratch! And to use going forward, thank you!!

Thankfully had run it down a fair bit, so won't be the end of the world if I have to let it all go I suppose.

Thank you for the replies!
