Vinegar for cleaning

Dilbertian · 24/07/2021 12:35

I generally use distilled malt vinegar (the colourless stuff) for descaling, softening towels, and other household cleaning jobs.

I had a brain fart and bought brown vinegar by mistake. Two 5L cartons! Is it suitable, or will it leave brown marks?

I use white vinegar too. From what I've read brown vinegar isn't recommended for cleaning as the smell is much stronger and it can stain surfaces.

I wouldn't use brown vinegar no.

Doh!

And I don't even like vinegar on my chips.

Used chippy vinegar in hot soapy water to clear glass whilst working in a chip shop. It's where I first learned about vinegar in cleaning. Not sure I'd use it on towels etc but I don't use it right for them right now.

Should say, I use white vinegar for glass in the house now, just that we used what we had in the shop.

Better start making some pickled onions!

It's exactly the same stuff except the brown one has some caramel colour in it. It's fine for cleaning.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/07/2021 14:07

It’ll be fine.

Isn't chippy vinegar actually a non-brewed condiment? i.e. not vinegar at all?
