Robot vacuums are they safe??

Hi, I have been thinking to get a roborock s7. My question is I know they use laser sensors to map, clean etc. Does anyone know if this is safe? Do you know if there's any other alternatives to the laser?

Any recommendations of models of robot vacuums/mops? I have a fairly big 5 bedroom house with a combination of laminate flooring and medium pile carpet, so need something with a decent bin size and something that doesn't need charging after a short period of time.

Why wouldn’t the lasers be safe?

Clymene · 23/07/2021 11:26

Safe in what way? Mine cleans the floors when I can't be bothered and takes itself back to bed at night. If you do it frequently, they don't pick up much because yours floors stay clean.

frazzledasarock · 23/07/2021 11:29

The lasers aren't big shiny pointy upwards lasers, I've got a robot vacuum, I let it loose in the evening and come down to a lovely clean ground floor, it picks up fine on both carpet and hard floors. Makes the house so much tidier and it's one less stress. I find the weekly clean take less time.

Mine also mops, but the water tank falls off easily so I need to put in only a small amount of water but it works beautifully.

I have cats who follow it around whilst it's doing it's thing. No animal or child has thus far been injured in the use of kev the robot vacuum. Yes we've named him.

I leave our charging hub plugged in permanently, it stops charging when fully charged, the hub takes barely any space.

Clymene · 23/07/2021 11:38

Ours is called Gilbert

lazylinguist · 23/07/2021 11:50

Safe in what sense, OP? What do you think the laser is going to do? I use a Roborock. My house is split level with 3 levels, laminate flooring throughout with a couple of rugs.. Like the pp, I leave it on its hub. It stops charging when fully charged.

I just didn't know if lasers are ok so thought I would ask. I don't quite know how it works with the laser how does it know where to go?

Any recommendations of good one you ladies are using?

I just didn't know if it's safe with young children around to

Just a random link I found, how do we know the lasers for each model are safety certified?

The only downside - our dog had had a big accident in the (carpeted) lounge overnight. Roomie automatically vacuums the whole of the downstairs before we get up. The result was the stuff nightmares are made of 😩

Well perhaps you should buy that one. My children don't lie down and peer at Gilbert.

Ttchelp1 · 23/07/2021 12:33

I really like the look of roborock s7 just wanted opinions about the laser issue

Oh gosh that sounds like a total nightmare! Hope it wasn't too painful cleaning it up although I'm sure it was!

@Ttchelp1 I have the best dp in the entire world who took charge and did all the cleaning up (took all day) while the rest of us stayed upstairs from fear of treading it in even further. Nightmare!

BertieBotts · 23/07/2021 18:22

Eh? Don't loads of things involve lasers? If they weren't safe they wouldn't be sold for home use. I expect it's about as powerful as a TV remote control.

Ttchelp1 · 23/07/2021 21:39

Yeah that's a point do remote controls have laser sensors 2?

Lasers? Why would that be a problem?

I love my Eufy. He’s fabulous. He hasn’t zapped me with is laser yet...

Nohomemadecandles · 24/07/2021 22:05

I think you'll be ok. It's not Star Wars.

You'd have to be lying flat on the floor eyeballing it to cross its path.

Ifitquacks · 24/07/2021 22:08

Do you normally get overly anxious about this sort of thing OP?

Nohomemadecandles · 24/07/2021 22:10

I'm really sorry but I keep giggling about this. Bless you!

Mykittensmittens · 24/07/2021 22:15

I’ve just posted on a other thread about robovacs (unconnected to lasers!)

I have a degree in physics and have worked all my life with lasers and light transmission, including my dissertation, and masters work. I now work in technical digital communications, which involves lasers.

Unlesss you’re intending to strap your robovac to your face (not advised), you’ll be okay. Honestly nothing to worry about on that front.

Dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 25/07/2021 01:43

Roborock S7 is really good but as far as safety goes, I never run it if I am not in the house. Other people do however or run them overnight etc.
It is quite hard to get the S7 in the UK and I haven't found the new self-emptying dock available anywhere yet, except USA. I bought my actual unit off E-bay and it was shipped from Estonia to UK.

'Roborock S6 max v' claims it should avoid dog poop because of the built-in cameras. That issue would be a reason to not do auto-vacuum until you have checked the lie of the land...it is not worth the hassle surely?

Confused

I've had a eufy for 2 years and no one in my household has had their eyes burned out yet. Are you normally so concerned about lasers?
