washing machine with an extra door for stray socks?

We need a new washing machine all of a sudden and DH is rather taken with this one
www.samsung.com/uk/washers-and-dryers/washing-machines/front-load-9kg-white-ww90t684dlh-s1/
with its fancy extra door for stray socks.

The budget is 400 (builders have written ours off and are replacing it) but DH want to pay extra for something fancy...

Does anyone have one of these and is it worth it? I am thinking it is a gimmick and something extra to go wrong (and 400 is a decent budget to get a washing machine...)

Also it has a detergent dispenser which I am dubious about - we use a specific non- bio as DS has sensitive skin and so I would prefer to to control this anyway. - Any experience with this?

I should also mention here that the laundry is largely DHs responsibility in this house so he will get the final say.

I have a WiFi 10kg model. I love the door and use it frequently, but would prefer to not have auto-dose.

I have a Miele machine that has a really good stop to add more laundry setting that might be an option if you don't want the extra dose facility

I have the Samsung one with extra 'door' I wish i never bothered, It will only open so far into the cycle, I have used it once and tbh it gets absolutely disgusting round the door on the inside. i won't be having one like that again.

I have one and use it quite a bit, but then my DC have a habit of stripping off socks and leaving them in odd places.

I wouldn't choose a washer just for that feature, but it does help my odd sock pile to stay manageable.

I just bought one and love it! Loads of flexibility in the settings to allow a long proper wash with soak or a much quicker cottons wash. I have noticed a real difference in how few stains we have compared to old machine.

Add wash is good, but yes you aren't supposed to use it once there are suds. Bosch also does a pause to add, so no door but you can add bits. Again you could only use til so far in the wash and I don't know if the pause would take a minute before it lets you open the door.

I love the auto dose but can also very easily disable it for some cycles to allow me to use powder on some occasions to keep the machine fresh and for heavier soiled items.

I would recommend it and spent a lot of time researching first.

I put stray socks in the laundry basket and do them with the next load. Because there’s always a next load… I saw this when I was last washing machine shopping and couldn’t quite believe it was a thing…

Mine is a whirlpool and the door will open if you hold the button down for 3 seconds.

ProfInkly · 16/07/2021 21:34

I have a neff which will pause (as long as it isn't full of water) and you can open the door and add stuff in.

HappyAsASandboy · 16/07/2021 21:37

I have always had washing machines you can pause, open the door to add the socks, and set running again. I couldn't quite believe it when Samsung invented the little door as if adding the socks was a new thing Hmm

I think the little door is something else to go wrong, leak, get clogged up and dirty etc. Just get one that allows you to pause and add?!

Ilovewillow · 16/07/2021 21:41

We have this one and also the tumble drier, they are both excellent (previously had Miele). However, I have never used the stray sock drawer. The shoe airer in the tumble drier is useful though!

Theunamedcat · 16/07/2021 21:45

I dont like the auto dose thing it gives you the details for 5kilo loads on a 9kilo washer the math doesn't add up

I was going to say the exact same. I have a bosch and if I forget something, just press pause, I open the large door and put in anything extra I like.

Do you need a dispenser for the detergent? I just add the tablet/capsule inside the machine with the clothes.

If you are paying extra for these functions, I'd look at a bosch or other model.

SinkGirl · 16/07/2021 21:47

I really want one. I’m always finding a random item as soon as the machine fills with water.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 16/07/2021 21:51

All bosch logixx models have a pause button to add stray items too.

GreyhoundG1rl · 16/07/2021 21:56

It sounds like a good idea in theory, but more for those mythical people who do a weekly wash.

When you do about two loads daily, it stops being an issue 😂

Tronkmanton · 16/07/2021 22:13

I’ve got a Samsung with the little door but not the dosing thing. I love the little door- it’s really useful. I’m not sure I’d like the dosing thing though as I only use powder.

PrincessesRUs · 16/07/2021 22:31

I use the pause/little door to add left over bits thing in almost every wash - I'm soooooo pleased my husband got it (I poo pooed it at the time!)
