Ottoman bed storage- what's in yours?

We have very limited storage in our house. We need a new bed so I've ordered a super king with a full ottonam base. But I'm not quite sure what to put in it. It seems reasonably easy to access so I was thinking spare bed linen, winter clothes, etc, but I'm open to suggestions of what works for others.

I have an IKEA Malm storage bed in the spare room. I use it to store bulky but frequently used stuff - mainly climbing and mountaineering stuff, rucksacks, wild camp tent and sleeping bag, walking poles, walking boots, crampons etc, as it saves me having to go in the loft every weekend. Plus my toolkits and a pair of stepladders (!) as I only have a tiny garden store and very little storage in the house. Spare room wardrobe is for winter clothes, and the drawers in the divan in my room are for bed linen, extra towels etc.

Books. Embarrass to admit. But books and bedding. So much nicer than trying to find storage boxes that fit under beds

Newnormal99 · 05/07/2021 22:11

I have a divan with 4 deep drawers so they fit loads.

1 - drawer for hiding Xmas and birthday presents for dd's
2 - spare school uniform outgrown by dd1 but will be needed for dd2
3 - bits and pieces I have on fb marketplace that haven't sold yet.
4 - Xmas cards / paper plus a selection of presents for dd party invites.

Bedding. Winter/ summer clothes. Spare toiletries. Jewellery box.

Soontobe60 · 05/07/2021 22:16

King sized bed here with huge drawers. Bedding on one side, and all towels on the other.

stormelf · 05/07/2021 22:22

Suitcases, spare bedding, suit carriers, all the clothes my children have grown out of but keeping for third baby

Lightningrain · 05/07/2021 22:24

Wrapping paper, sandals/summer clothes in winter and jumpers in summer. Spare bedding and towels.

NakedAttraction · 05/07/2021 22:27

Suitcases. Large bags. Toddler bed. Various bits of baby kit, baby gyms, etc.

The plan after all the baby crap is gone is to store seasonal clothes under there.

Mrsdoubtfireswig · 05/07/2021 22:28

Spare quilt / pillows, bedding, towels, winter coats, blankets

Hopeislost · 05/07/2021 22:35

Spare bedding. Winter coats and jumpers. Blankets. All sealed in vacuum bags.

EverythingDelegated · 05/07/2021 22:38

Out of season clothes, shoes, coats. Small suitcases. Box files of paperwork. Spare school uniform. Space for all the Christmas presents. Christmas books and DVDs. We could fit quite a bit more in.

Timeforabiscuit · 05/07/2021 22:38

Spare bedding, towels, blankets, winter clothes and space for Christmas presents!

jelly79 · 05/07/2021 22:46

Bedding and fabric kallax cubes with shoes in! It's great for shoe storage. Then outgrown kids clothes for charity

yikesanotherbooboo · 05/07/2021 22:49

Skiwear, waterproofs, back packs

freezingmytoesoff · 05/07/2021 22:50

Spare bedding and towels, but with fresh cotton scented sheets layered between as find it can get a bit musty...

Then skis, Christmas decorations, cabin sized suitcases, spare laptop screen.., random things really but we live in a flat with very very little storage!

2pinkginsplease · 05/07/2021 22:53

We bought a new bed with ottoman storage in it. We have our bed linen, towels, my shoes and handbags, wrapping paper/giftbags. And bizarrely a 2man pop up tent! 🤣🤣

myfuckingfreezer · 05/07/2021 22:59

Confusedandshaken · 07/07/2021 12:11

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 07/07/2021 12:14

Spare sheets and duvets, and an inflatable bed.

LucysSkyDiamonds · 07/07/2021 12:41

Just one word of advice, if you have cats, don't leave the bed open and unattended. I have been woken by a scratching sound from inside my ottoman bed before now and found a pissed off cat in there.
