Help me love my steam mop

So thanks to all those who helped me choose a new hoover to replace my old rubbish one. I'm in the middle if trying to tidy and get my house back a bit more.

I have one of those green is it the H20 steam mops. Tbh I never realky was impressed. It just smelt musty and I couldn't notice that much difference.

Am I using it wrong or did I just get a shit one or are they really just an.overrated gadget that takes up space?

What tricks am I missing

Tia

I hate my steam mop! It's no better than a normal mop.

SueGeneris · 03/07/2021 08:03

Overrated. I got one but realised that what I actually wanted was someone else to clean the damn floor!

I have a Vax steam mop and I do like it , but it’s a bit of a faff.
The plus points of mine are a) I an use a fresh smelling shampoo on the hard floors b) it has a carpet glider that lets me freshen up the rugs ( I have dogs).
The downsides are the triangle shape which won’t let me access tight spaces, and it’s a pain to take apart to use the hand held function.
So , meh, overall not worth getting excited about.

Yes! Grin this is so true!

I had a vax one and thought it was rubbish, I gave it away and went back to a normal mop & bucket, I don’t think they’re all that.

Aaah so it's not something I need to.invest some time and effort into figuring out then?

Glad I'm.mot alone I was just wondering as I'm actually about to have clean set of stairs thanks to my new hoover if I should make a similar effort with the floors. I won't bother buying more of the pads for it then. I was actually also half thinking of binning it . It don't even stand up on its own so it's permanently having to be wedged in or propped up somewhere

I ditched mine after it sat unused for ages. Got a cheap spray mop instead, which does the trick between big mops.

TenCornMaidens · 03/07/2021 14:57

Having said that, I definitely don't need to sterilise my floors as no babies crawling on it or anything.

Pikachusbutt · 03/07/2021 15:01

If it smells musty, are you cleaning the pad for it properly? We had a Vax one and once DH didn't change the pad before cleaning with it and it smelt rank. I found I had to clean the pad on a good hot wash in the washing machine after every use.

Now, I just have one of those flash spray mops. We can't use a steam mop on our new floor Angry

woodhill · 03/07/2021 15:03

Yes, I went back to mop and bucket.

Whatwouldscullydo · 03/07/2021 15:11

pik it wasn't coming from the pad I think it was inside.

I cant use zoflora really s I have 2 kids who that makes sneeze/cough Hmm

I love mine!
Agree clean pad each use for sure, I also sprinkle a few drops of essential oil on to a folder square of kitchen towel, and put this in between the pad and steamer before use, makes the whole house smell lovely. I'm using a cheap pink grapefruit one at the moment

Blossomandbee · 07/07/2021 16:02

I love mine too! Much easier that filling up and sloshing a mop and bucket around. Easier to store away too. No chemicals. Just have to be careful that the heat doesn't damage some types of flooring.
