Vacuum cleaner suggestions?

So I've just killed my second hand ball upright Dyson. It weighs a ton anyway, knocks holes in anything I go past (maybe me being a hit aggressive also) and is near impossible to use on the car. Could get it serviced but cost more than I paid for it.
I've thought about a Henry as I used one as a cleaner & was great but my utility cupboard is really diddy so I know they are quite chunky. I'd rather not have another upright as I want to be able to easily do the stairs, skirting and the car. Maybe a shark Duoclean? Comes apart easily by the photos. So stores like an upright. Don't want to spend too much so after some suggestions please 🙂 TIA.

This thread is a bit old now, so if you have landed here looking for recommendations, we recently updated our best vacuum cleaner buyer's guide, featuring the best cordless, cylinder and upright vacuums, tried and tested by Mumsnet.

We hope you find this useful.

I am a housekeeper and have met a lot of vacuum cleaners in my life. I would recommend Miele every time.

I’ve got a Miele cat and dog and second Bichett, mine has been going strong for 7 years and works as well as it did when I first got it.
